Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After recent Windows 10 updates and certain HP updates, keyboard backlit switching off by itself after no any typing for approximately 30 sec. As soon as a keystroke hit, backlit coming back on automatically. Obviously some new feature/setting was applied by some of update(s). Where I could find those particular setting and to adjust backlit to depend only on the respective F5 for switching On and Off?

Hi @RDimov

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the Keyboard issue.

Let's try these steps -

1) In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.

2) Double-click Keyboards.

3) Right click on the keyboard drivers and click on uninstall.

4) Restart the computer.

Also, try updating the computer -

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Yesterday I received a new  Spectre x360 Convertible 13t-aw 100 - The backlit keyboard times out - there seems to be no way to adjust for this? Is there a fix for keeping the backlit keyboard ON or OFF - without timing out? Running Windows HOME 10 Version 10.0.18362 Build 18362

Please help - This is a very annoying feature of an otherwise fine computer.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

If the blacklight stays on for only a few seconds, the backlight timeout setting might need configuring in the BIOS.

Note:If there is not a setting for the backlight timing in the BIOS, this behavior might not be supported on the notebook.

Your BIOS version and screens might vary.

  1. Restart the notebook, and then immediately press the F10 repeatedly until the BIOS opens.

  2. When the BIOS opens, use the arrow keys to navigate to the Advanced tab.

  3. Navigate to Built-in Device Options, and then press Enter.

The Advanced tab showing Built-in Device Option highlighted

  4. In the Built-in Device Options, select Backlit keyboard timeout.

  5. Press the spacebar to open the keyboard backlight settings, and then select the timeout setting you want.

    note:

If you select Never, the backlight remains on which could quickly drain the notebook battery power.
