HP Spectre x360 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 16-f1000 (508S0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi community,

The screen of my laptop started a to become a bit grayish on the edges. Now it's really bad. The laptop is 2,5 years old. Any idea what this might be and if I can fix it? Attached a photo for clarification.

Hi @JerEnvy

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The grayish border on your HP Spectre x360 16-inch screen could be due to several factors, such as screen aging, backlight bleeding, or hardware issues.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and address the problem:

1. Check for Backlight Bleeding

  • Backlight bleeding occurs when light leaks around the edges of the screen. Test this by displaying a completely black image on your screen in a dark room. If you notice uneven lighting, it might be backlight bleeding.

2. Update Graphics Drivers

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest graphics drivers for your laptop model.
  • Install the drivers and restart your laptop.

3. Adjust Display Settings

  • Go to Settings > Display and reduce the brightness or enable features like Night Light to see if it improves the appearance.

4. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Use the built-in HP Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for hardware issues. You can access it by pressing F2 during startup.

5. Inspect Physical Damage

  • Check the screen edges for any physical damage or pressure marks. If the laptop has been dropped or mishandled, it could cause discoloration.

6. Let us check if the issue is replicated on the BIOS screen, to isolate if this is an hardware or software issue.

  • Follow the steps below:
  1. Shutdown your PC completely, as soon as you Turn on the computer repeatedly press the Esc key to enter the Startup Menu.
  2. Press F10 to open the BIOS Setup Utility.

Let me know if the display is same on the BIOS screen as well.

Hi Hawks_Eye,

Thanks for the reply. Tried it all butt did not found anything. Even when I am in Bios it is there and also when the laptop is turned off. What to do now?

Hi @JerEnvy,

Sounds like you’ve done all the right checks, and since the grayish border is visible even in BIOS and when the laptop is turned off, this confirms it’s a hardware issue, not software or driver related.
