HP Spectre x 360 15-bl0XX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Since an update from Windows 10 in 2019, I have always had a result of a totally disabled touchpad and even a USB/wireless mouse cannot connect.

I am then  left with having to use the tab and cursor buttons to try to navigate.  Thank God the touchscreen still works (I cracked it out of anger)

I have tried HP Support Australia but they said as I bought on EBAY, the model is made in the US and US HP won't provide me support from there.  I have gone to countless forums for HP, Windows 10, uninstalled, reinstallled drivers, accessed the touchpad website for drivers.  Did all of that.  Nothing worked.  Got a very basic Windows based touchpad working but limited functions - not the 2, 3,4 finger intelligent scroll, screen change etc options.  I went around in circles for months and months trying again and again and again.

I had to keep rolling back update as it could not proceed past that point without doing this.  So, since then I cannot update Windows 10 for anything.  It is over a year and I am missing important patches and updates but Windows 10 is so useless and no proper support for HP that I give up.  Windows 10 totally and utterly sux.  Worst operating system ever.  All the promo for it when it came out looked amazing but in reality it is crap and poorly done.  I don't know who they employ these days at Microsoft Windows but they can't be the same calibre as before.  Seems like nobody there gives a **bleep** and won't help all computers adapt properly to the Win 10 operating system.  So why make it available pre-installed when you buy it then?  No point if you are faced with so much stress you almost completely destroy your laptop.  I have had enough.  I hate Windows so much now.

To go through the rollback is a nightmare each time.  HP are useless.  So disappointed I bought an HP.  Which I had stuck with previous company but got sold by the promo garbage for Spectre.  Has been my living nightmare since.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the touchpad.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

What happens when you update Windows?

What is the Windows version you are using? (Like 1903,1909, or 2004)

Meanwhile, I recommend you download and install the Windows precision drivers and check if it helps.

Precision driver: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n1mgx14w.zip

  1. Unzip the downloaded drivers to a temporary directory and make a note of where they are.
  2. Right-click on Start.
  3. Choose Device Manager.
  4. Double-click Mice and other pointing devices.
  5. Right-click on Synaptics/Elan device.
  6. Choose Update driver.
  7. Click Browse my computer for driver software.
  8. Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
  9. Pick Have Disk
  10. Choose Browse… and navigate to the folder where you extracted the Precision drivers.
  11. Select Autorun.inf from the directory of Precision drivers.
  12. Select Synaptics Pointing Device and then Next.
  13. On the Update Driver Warning choose Yes.
  14. Let the driver install and restart the PC to enable

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hello,

thanks for the reply.  I Have Windows 10 Pro version 1803.

I will try the driver and update it accordingly as per your listed instructions provided.

I am unsure whether or not to enable the automatic windows update from that point and see what happens?

I will create a restore point beforehand and get ready for Armageddon again.  I will do it on the weekend when prepared to set aside a few hours it it all goes terrible again.

Thanks.
