HP Spectre x360 Laptop - 15-eb0001na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have had the 2020 version of the HP Spectre x360 15 for almost two years now. Last week, the keyboard and touchpad stopped responding - meaning the only ways to interact are to use the touchscreen or plug in an external keyboard / mouse.

I also noticed that the icons in Windows Explorer were showing extra padding at all times, as if the laptop thought it was in '2-in-1' tablet mode. Note that the Windows 10 tablet mode button is not activated (the one when you click in the bottom right and turn on/off tablet mode).

Amongst other things I have tried to resolve this, I have reset Windows 10 (i.e. removed all of my files and reinstalled Windows) and have also put the laptop into BIOS mode - where, crucially, it should be noted that the keyboard DOES respond. Thus, I don't think the issue is with the keyboard.

Could it be the sensor which activates / deactivates the keyboard and touchpad thinks the laptop is in tablet mode when it isn't, and is thus permanently disabling them? Is this perhaps a driver issue? I need some advice and support to rectify this issue, as I cannot currently use the device as a laptop.
