HP Spectre x360 - 13-aw0021ng

Hello,

I've read through several posts similar to my problem, but couldn't find a solution to fix it. I hope someone can help me, because I really don't know what to do at this point.

I own the HP Spectre x360 Convertible and use it with the HP Tilt Pen (rechargable). Both were purchased and used since 2021. Unfortunately I don't know the specific model or serial number of the pen, but this is what it looks like:

For the record, the touchscreen of the notebook works perfectly fine, finger-recognition is flawless, so I don't think the screen itself is the problem.

So I've been using this pen for a long time and it always worked out fine. Yesterday, like many other times before, I charged it to full battery, as it had run empty, and that's when it didn't work all of a sudden. The pen's tip wouldn't register on the screen. I've tried different modes, it doesn't work in regular tablet mode or bluetooth mode. It does respond fine in presentation mode. The buttons on the pen also work fine in presentation mode. In the other modes, the lower button doesn't do anything, but I think that's because the tip doesn't respond.

What does work, strangely enough, is the eraser, but not as it should. The touchscreen now recognizes that as the pen's tip, the cursor appears on screen, I can do things with it, as if it was the tip of the pen. When I tried different things to fix it, I noticed when holding the pen sideways to the screen, the pen's barrel also gets recognized by the screen, and I got it to recognize the tip for about a second messing around with it, but then it wouldn't work again.

So here's a list of things I've tried already:

  • The good 'ol turning everything off and on again
  • Removed the pen from my bluetooth devices and re-coupled it
  • Updated windows
  • Updated drivers (maybe not the specific ones for the pen, since I don't know the model/serial number)
  • Went to the device manager, to human interface devices, uninstalled HID-conform touchscreen and HID-conform pen, restarted the laptop
  • updated everything I could possibly update in the hp support assistant software
  • checked hp pen control settings, but nothing there helps
  • checked touchscreen calibration settings, but since the tip isn't recognized, that doesn't help either
  • removed the pen nib to see if something got inside and put it back again
  • replaced the pen nib with a new nib

Think that's about it. Any help is much appreciated, thank you 🙂
