HP Beats 15 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Touchsmart notebook.  My Touchscreen stopped working and the System Specs page now reads "No Pen or Touch Input is Available for Display. "  There is no Touchscreen item listed in Device Manager (I uninstalled it and restarted laptop to re-install it...it did not install).  The Tablet PC Setting option is no longer available.  I updated all drivers using the Update Menu in my laptop Settings and also from the HP website.  I followed the troubleshooting steps in the HP Forum up to and including removing the battery and all peripherals and restarting and checking, again, for updates.  My Recovery Setting was turned off so I could not use a Restore Point.  In the past when I had this problem uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, or calibrating the touchscreen, worked.  I'm at a loss and notice this is a prevalent problem.  Any help?  Thank you in advance for any input.

Hello, @JC60 – Hope you are well 🙂

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a great location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

I understand that your HP Beats 15 Notebook PC is not responding to the touch. Appreciate all your efforts in trying to fix the issue! To assist you with this issue, I'd like to know the specific product number of your notebook. If unsure, please check: http://hp.care/2oPCMBG

I would like you to try some general steps that would help you fix the issue. Go to http://hp.care/2o24n11 and follow the steps listed under “Screen does not respond to touch, or responds intermittently”.

Follow the steps under - Update the BIOS and graphics driver, Configure the touch display and Perform a touch screen diagnostic test in HP Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.

Thanks, let me know how that goes!

Good luck 🙂

Thanks Dvortex for your quick response to my touchscreen problem.  Unfortunately, the recommended resolution did not work for me.  You requested my specific product number, which is N8W02UA#ABA.   I found and installed a new BIOS Update, from AMI F.44 9/20/2016 to AMI F.44 Rev A 10/06/2016.  Graphics driver was up to date and no other updates were available.  After following the recommended steps there is still no touchscreen entry in device manager nor does a search for PC Tablet Settings result in any findings.  Also, the device manager page is refreshing every couple of seconds. This was also happening before I posted my question.  If there are any additional fixes I can try please let me know and thanks again for the information you provided.

Hello, @JC60

Try these steps listed below:

  1. In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.

  2. Expand the Human Interface Devices heading.

  3. The touch screen device is labeled HID-compliant touch screen, or similar. Right-click the touch screen device.

  4. If the option to enable the device is included in the menu, click Enable.

If the issue persists, please perform a hardware test as suggested below:

  1. Plug the AC adapter into the computer.

  2. Press the Power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  3. Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second.

  4. When the HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI screen displays, click Component Tests.

  5. Click Touch Screen.

  6. There are two interactive touch screen hardware tests. Start by clicking Touch Pointer Test.

  7. Read the on-screen instructions, then click Run once.

  8. Touch each of the blocks on the screen to erase them. The test ends after all blocks are erased or after three minutes have passed, and results are displayed.

  9. Click Main menu to return to the main UEFI screen and run the second touch screen test.

  10. Click Component Tests, then click Touch Screen.

  11. Click Drag And Drop Test.

  12. Read the on-screen instructions, then click Run once.

  13. Drag each orange rectangle to the box indicated by the arrows with a finger or a stylus. The test ends after all blocks are repositioned or after three minutes have passed, and results are displayed.

Let me know the results!

Cheers 🙂

There are strange things going on with my laptop.  The first set of recommended steps didn't resolve my problem last night but when I logged on this morning there actually was an HID-compliant touch screen entry in Device Manager.  I went ahead and performed the hardware tests recommended in your previous post.  Both the Touch Pointer and Drag and Drop Tests were unsucessful.  So, basically my Touch Screen made a brief appearance then disappered again.  I want to throw this laptop against the wall, but since I really don't need the Touchscreen I'll keep it.  If you have any other ideas I will try one last time.  Also, if you have a remedy for the ever-refreshing Device Manager page that would be helpful.  Thanks Dvortex for your assistance, it is very much appreciated.

Hi @JC60,

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that the issue still persists after following the steps provided in the previous interaction.

Let me jump in with a solution for this issue in place of my colleague as he is out of the office today.

This issue could occur if the if the windows updates are not installed.

Hence I suggest that you run the windows updates on your computer.

If the issue still persists, then you may need to contact HP Phone Support for further assistance at the link: www.hp.com/contacthp

You have a good day ahead.

Hello Rainbow23.  Thank you for stepping in for Dvortex.  Your recommendation to run the windows updates on my computer doesn't provide any new steps for me to follow to resolve my dilemas (1) touch screen not working and (2) Device Manager page constantly refreshing.  Checking for and installing updates were the very first steps I took toward alleviating these problems.  The touch screen isn't something I need so I'm  not going to pursue a remedy for that at this time.  Dvortex provided very specific recommendations to try to resolve the touch screen issue.  Unfortunately none of those recommendations worked for me.  I appreciate Dvortex's efforts and time spent working on that problem.  As for the constantly refreshing Device Manager page, that wasn't addressed here so I will continue looking for information to resolve that issue.  Thank you.
