HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-fd0000 (70R02AV)

My HP True Vision FHD Camera suddenly stopped working in Windows. It was working normally before the issue occurred.

Laptop: HP 15-fd0011TU (7P703PA#ACJ)
OS: Windows 11 26H2

Windows detects the camera normally as HP True Vision FHD Camera / USB Video Device. Device Manager shows no errors and reports that the device is working properly.

However, the camera cannot provide a video stream. The Windows Camera app shows 0xA00F429E (0x80004003), and the camera also fails in Discord.

HP Support Assistant → Webcam Test: FAILED. The diagnostic log reports:
“Interactive user reported an issue with video streaming.”

The HP UEFI/Webcam Connection Test passes, so the camera is detected and can work in the pre-boot environment.

I have already tried:

  • Repairing/resetting the Camera app
  • Disabling/re-enabling the camera
  • Uninstalling/reinstalling the camera device
  • SFC and DISM
  • Windows Update
  • Windows repair reinstall
  • Testing with a new Windows user account
  • HP Support Assistant updates

None of these resolved the problem. I would like to determine whether this is a Windows 26H2 compatibility/driver issue or a webcam hardware/connection issue.

Your laptop uses a generic windows driver for the camera.  I am guessing that the windows 11 camera app is not working.

Enter 'camera' in the windows search box. An error message may appear. If so, click 'Get Help'. If there is no 'Get Help' then read this article.

If you see the above then the windows camera driver is not working.  You have win11 26h2 possibly it put in a newer driver that is not compatible.

See if you can roll back the driver or alternately restore to a previous time that the camera was working.  There are no HP drivers for consumer grade laptops, only generic Microsoft drivers.

Try rolling back the driver
Did you try rolling back the camera driver?

It could be the camera driver or the USB driver if the camera is connected to the USB. Many internal cameras are connected to the USB.

In the pictures below you would select the camera driver and then look for 'rollback'

If camera driver is the problem

If the problem is the wrong USB driver for the camera

If you cannot rollback the driver then try to find the best one or let windows try. One way is to just uninstall the camera and reboot as described in this official HP document..

You can try a restore point

This video describes how to use a restore point. Alternately enter restore in the windows search bar.

If none of the above work then, if it is critical that the camera be used ASAP, you can do a factory restore.  Make sure you have backups and codes for all installed software

HP is removing cloud recovery for system over 5 years old. The actual wording is a limited time after the warranty expires. You may want to get a copy of the cloud recovery before it is too late.

Cloud recovery provides all the custom HP drivers.
Go here and enter your product ID including the 3 characters after the # character. If you have cloud recovery you can restore your system using a 64gb flash.
It may take an hour or more to create the recovery USB. Alternately, download from the MS windows store. Click here for instructions.
