HP Spectre x360 - 13t-ae000 CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My touchscreen and pen digitizer registers inputs with the Y axis inverted (i.e. if I touch the bottom of the screen it registers a touch at the top, if I touch the exact middle, it registers correctly). I suspect I may have installed the incorrect firmware for my specific model (I was attempting to fix an unrelated issue which is now resolved). The firmware for the digitizer is not available on the hp software/firmware download page for my model. I am looking for a page like this: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04960260 for the HP Spectre x360 - 13t-ae000 CTO

I have been reading through the forums and have come across numerous horror stories of bricked devices requiring physical replacement of digitizer hardware. I seems hp doesn't make the firmware available for all models (perhaps because of the dangers associated with installing the incorrect firmware).

Any assistance would be hugely appreciated!

The issue has been resolved on the previous version of the x360 13t - https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Touch-screen-firmware-upgrade/td-p/56... - the required digitizer firmware for each screen resolution option is listed on that version's software/firmware download page: https://support.hp.com/ch-de/drivers/selfservice/hp-spectre-13-4100-x360-convertible-pc/8499273/mode...

I'm looking for "Firmware update for the HP UHD Touchscreen Controller" for the x360 13t ae000 model. Alternatively I'm looking for a download link for the original firmware for this model (because an updated firmware for the touchscreen controller likely doesn't exist, which is why hp hasn't included it on the download list for my model).

@GrInK
Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Let's try re-installing the firmware from hereVersion: FWRS5 Rev.A for HP Spectre x360 - 13t-ae000 CTO

If this fails, then try a system restore. The System Restore returns your computer to the files and settings from the restore point. Your personal files and documents are not affected. Click here to perform "Using Microsoft System Restore" (Windows 10, 😎

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thanks - but the firmware you linked to is for the HP tilt pen - not for the digitizer.

The firmware you linked to is on the download page for the x360 13t ae000 model - I've already tried installing it, and it made no difference. I've also attempted a system restore - but it restored files and settings, but doesn't revert the firmware.

Please take a look at the pages I linked to in my earlier messages - it'll hopefully be clear that I need the touchscreen controller firmware, which isn't available on the download page for my unit. The phenomenon I described in mu initial post (where the digitizer registers touches inverted on the y-axis) effects both pen/stylus and fingertip interactions.

Thanks for your help - I really hope you can help find the firmware I need!

@GrInK

Let's reinstall software programs and hardware drivers that were originally installed on the computer at the factory.
Click here to know how to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 10) using HP Recovery Manager.

If this fails, you can reinstall the Windows operating system from here in order to get the original touchscreen firmware.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi there

I think we're missing each other. Re-installing software and drivers isn't going to fix the firmware. I can re-install the operating system until I'm blue in  the face and it'll do nothing to restore the touchscreen firmware - the operating system is on the SSD while the touchscreen firmware is written to the hardware's flash memory. I don't need drivers. I don't need an OS restore. I need the original touchscreen firmware.

I really appreciate the fact that you're trying to help me but I'm convinced that what I need is to restore the firmware for the touchscreen to the firmware that originally came with the x360.

Kind regards,

GrInK

@GrInK,

I checked the specifications of your computer and I do not see any firmware update for the touchscreen available for your computer.

The computer uses the Windows touchscreen driver and there is no specific driver or firmware available for your computer from HP.

I recommend you follow the steps in the below article and check if it helps.

NOTE: Follow the steps under Touch screen responds inaccurately

Thanks, but this doesn't help me. Let me try to be very clear - I don't need a firmware update, I need a download link for the original firmware. I've accidentally installed the incorrect firmware and want to overwrite this incorrect firmware with the correct firmware. I've tried the support assistant...  and I've scoured the Internet looking for the firmware. This isn't a driver issue, and won't be repaired by updating / repairing or re-installing the operating system: when I boot into the BIOS settings the screen digitizer registers touch incorrectly as well.  The device was working fine before I installed a bunch of drivers and updates in an effort to fix an issue where my battery life was being compromised by a rogue process. This issue I managed to resolve, but in doing so I inadvertently seem to have installed the incorrect Touchscreen Controller Firmware.

My only request is for someone from HP to send me a download link for the ORIGINAL UHD Touchscreen Controller Firmware that shipped with my device.

Warm regards,

GrInK

@GrInK,

As informed in my previous post, the computer uses the Windows generic driver for the touchscreen. There was no firmware or driver which was preinstalled on the computer from HP.

Hope that answers your question.

Cheers!

No, it doesn't answer my question at all! 😪

I'm happy to accept that the device uses the "Windows generic driver for the touchscreen". As I keep stating, the problem is not driver-related. If it was, the touchscreen wouldn't exhibit the same symptoms when booting into the BIOS.

Stating that "there was no firmware or driver which was pre-installed on the computer from HP" is patently absurd:

  1. Using the words "firmware" and "driver" in this way (as if the terms are interchangeable) makes it appear that you may not have a clear understanding of the difference between firmware and drivers.
  2. As stated above, I'm happy to accept that HP doesn't pre-install touchscreen drivers and that the device uses the standard Windows 10 drivers.
  3. The firmware for the UHD touchscreen has most definitely been installed on the device - it wouldn't function without firmware. Perhaps it was installed by an upstream hardware supplier to HP - if that's the case, great. I honestly don't care who installed it. All I want if for someone to give me a link so that I can download it and re-install it!

Please don't try to convince me that no such firmware exists - of course it does. What I assume is in fact the case is that you do not have ready access to the originally firmware. I posted the following a week ago:

The issue has been resolved on the previous version of the x360 13t - https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Touch-screen-firmware-upgrade/td-p/56... - the required digitizer firmware for each screen resolution option is listed on that version's software/firmware download page: https://support.hp.com/ch-de/drivers/selfservice/hp-spectre-13-4100-x360-convertible-pc/8499273/mode...

The model referenced above is the predecessor  to my unit. It clearly came with firmware for the touchscreen pre-installed when new (like mine) and then HP decided to provide an update to that firmware. I am not looking for updated firmware, I am looking for the touchscreen firmware that came with my device when I purchased it.

@The_Fossette - I really don't want to get into technical arguments with HP staff that just want to help - and I very much appreciate the efforts that you and your colleagues have been made on my behalf. I'm extremely frustrated (with myself) because I have managed to mess up my prized x360. Any help in locating the original UHD touchscreen driver for my device model would be hugely appreciated.

Kind regards,

GrInK
