HP USB-C Travel Hub G2 gives Display connection might be limited and no HDMI output

For years I have used a Dell D6000 USB-C docking station with my HP Pavilion to drive 2 monitors and multiple USB ports.  I had that dock because I used the same multi-monitor setup for my work computer (Dell) and my personal computer (HP).  Worked fine.

Now I want to set up a work station in another location with two monitors, USB ports, etc.  I will carry my laptop back and forth between stations.  The HP sales technician assured me that the HP USB-C Travel hub G2 would do the job.  However when I plug the monitors into it, I get the message,  "Display connection might be limited" and no HDMI output.

I tried deleting all the USB devices in Device Manager, and letting them repopulate, but no better result.  I have also tried a third party USB-C Dock from ZMUIPNG, with the same result.  It just seems like my USB-C port needs something the Dell dock has but the HP dock does not.  

Any suggestions?  What am I missing?

In that case, does HP have a hub that will do the job with my laptop?  I see the Dell D6000 appears as a display driver in Device Manager.
