The webcam is not working, and the light keeps blinking repeatedly. When I launch the camera, an error message saying "No connected devices" briefly appears but then immediately disappears, and the application switches between the camera and the photo mode. I've noticed that Victus laptops have been experiencing this issue since the beginning of the summer, and I tried following various troubleshooting guides from this support, such as updating drivers and the BIOS, but it didn’t resolve the problem. Diagnostics also showed nothing, in Device manager the Status is "working".

Hi @sh4gen,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The blinking webcam light and inability to use the webcam on your HP Victus 15 laptop, despite the device status showing "working" in the Device Manager, suggests a potential conflict between the hardware, software, or a system-level glitch. Since you've already tried updating drivers, BIOS, and performing diagnostics, here are additional steps to address the issue.

Check Privacy Settings

  • Windows Privacy Settings:
    1. Go to SettingsPrivacy & SecurityCamera.
    2. Ensure "Camera access" is enabled.
    3. Confirm that apps (e.g., Camera, Zoom) are allowed to access the camera.
  • Third-party Privacy Tools:
    • Check if any antivirus or privacy software is blocking webcam access.

Test Webcam in Another App

  • Use a different app, like Zoom or Skype, to see if the webcam works there.
  • If it works elsewhere, the issue is with the Camera app.

Roll Back or Reinstall Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Locate Imaging Devices or Cameras, and right-click your webcam.
  3. Choose Uninstall Device and restart the computer.
    • Windows should reinstall the webcam driver automatically.
  4. If that fails, try downloading the original driver from the HP support site for your laptop model.

Disable and Re-enable Webcam

  1. In Device Manager, right-click the webcam and select Disable Device.
  2. Wait a few seconds, then select Enable Device.
  3. Test the webcam again.

Investigate Possible Conflicts

  • Background Applications:
    • Close any background apps that might be accessing the webcam (e.g., Discord, Teams, OBS).
  • Webcam Light Blink:
    • A blinking light could indicate that multiple apps are trying to access the webcam simultaneously.

Perform a Full System Shutdown

  • Turn off the laptop completely and disconnect it from power for a few minutes.
  • Restart it and test the webcam.

Restore System or Factory Reset

  • If none of the above works, consider restoring your system to an earlier point where the webcam was functioning.
  • As a last resort, perform a factory reset, ensuring to back up your data first.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
