Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-s0000 IDS Base Model

After installing the HP Inc. Firmware 15.29.0.0 update, corresponding to BIOS version F.29, on my HP Victus 16-s0000 laptop, I encountered a persistent black screen upon startup. The system emits the Windows startup sound, indicating that the operating system is loading, but the display remains unresponsive. Interestingly, temporarily closing and reopening the laptop lid restores the display, suggesting a potential issue with the display initialization sequence during boot.

This behavior aligns with reports from other users who have experienced similar issues following the F.29 BIOS update, where the laptop fails to display output despite the system running in the background.

Hi @Marakii,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Quick Checks

  1. Verify System Light Activity: Ensure that the power light indicators and any other activity lights (e.g., hard drive light) are functioning as expected.
  2. Remove External Devices: Disconnect all external devices, such as USB drives or docking stations, that may interfere with display output.
  3. Perform a Hard Reset:
    • Turn off the laptop.
    • Unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery if it's removable.
    • Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds.
    • Reconnect the battery and AC adapter and turn on the laptop.

Verify Display Output

External Monitor Check:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor using HDMI or DisplayPort.
  • Close the laptop lid to force the display output to the external monitor.
  • If the external monitor displays correctly, it may indicate an issue with the internal display panel or its connections.

BIOS Settings Reset:

  • Turn on the laptop and immediately press the F10 key repeatedly to access the BIOS Setup Utility.
  • If the BIOS screen is displayed, select "Reset to Default Settings" in the BIOS menu and save the changes before exiting.
  • Restart the laptop to see if the display issue is resolved.

Advanced Steps for Authorized Technicians

  1. Reseat Display Connections:
    • Reseat the display cable connections on both the system board and the display panel side to ensure they are firmly connected.
  2. Check and Reseat Major Components:
    • Examine and reseat major components such as the hard drive and memory modules to ensure they are properly connected.
  3. Test with Minimum Configuration:
    • Test the laptop with a minimum configuration by removing non-essential components and peripherals.
  4. Update BIOS Again:
    • If you have verified the display with an external monitor, try updating the BIOS again using an external monitor setup to ensure that the update is applied correctly.

I hope this helps.
