Hello community !
When editing any video or a new one project in Adobe Premiere, the video preview shows as black, the image is not visible.
I have tried everything I found on the internet about this issue, but nothing has worked for me.
- Upgrade Premier to last version, 24 and 25
- Change Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA), (OpenCL) to Software only
- Delete cache files on Premier
- Upgrade NVidia graphic card drivers from vendor site
- Upgrade laptop BIOS
- ...
My current configuration is
Laptop HP Victus 16 r0019ns P/N 836P6EA
Windows 11 23H2 build 22631.2428
Adobe 2024 - build 24.6.4 (compliation 3)
I have tried on a different laptop (Lenovo) with same OS version and Premier and works fine, so it should be a HP Victus issue
Please could you help me to solve this, it is very annoying having a power laptop and can't use it for video editing
Thanks
Frank

@carfras, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Victus Laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Adobe Premiere may sometimes experience issues with video preview, showing a black screen instead of the expected video. Here are some steps to resolve this issue specifically on an HP Victus laptop:
Verify NVidia Graphics Card Settings:
- Open the NVidia Control Panel.
- Go to "Manage 3D Settings".
- Ensure that Adobe Premiere Pro is set to use the NVidia graphics card.
- Under "Global Settings", ensure the preferred graphics processor is set to NVidia.
Adjust Project Settings:
- Open Adobe Premiere Pro.
- Go to "Project Settings" > "General".
- Change the "Renderer" from Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA) to Mercury Playback Engine Software Only.
- Save and restart Premiere.
Check for Updates:
- Ensure both Adobe Premiere Pro and your HP Victus laptop are running the latest updates.
- Sometimes, newer patches or driver updates can resolve compatibility issues.
Modify Video Playback Preferences:
- Go to "Edit" > "Preferences" > "Playback".
- Deselect "Enable Mercury Transmit".
- Try toggling different settings under "Playback" to see if any resolve the black preview issue.
Reinstall Graphics Drivers:
- Sometimes a clean reinstallation of graphics drivers can resolve issues.
- Uninstall the current graphics driver via Device Manager.
- Reinstall the latest drivers from the NVidia official website.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi @zoey7886
I have executed almost all the tests you mentioned, I even went as far as formatting and reinstalling the laptop, but I still have the same problem.
I didn't know that I could select the type of GPU per application from Windows, just as you mentioned in one of your points.
At the end, If I select integrated intel GPU for Adobe Premier applications, video previews works again, but it doesn't seem like a solution to me since the system has a more powerful dedicated NVIDIA GPU which I still can't use in Premiere.
What else can I do to get the video preview in Premiere working again using the laptop's NVIDIA GPU?
Thanks,
Frank

@carfras, Thanks for the detailed update — you're right, using the integrated GPU isn't ideal when you've got a powerful NVIDIA card ready to go.
Since the issue clears up with the Intel GPU, it definitely points to a conflict with Premiere and the NVIDIA GPU setup. Here's one last thing to try:
Force Adobe Premiere to use the high-performance NVIDIA GPU
Go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics.
Scroll down and click “Browse” to add Adobe Premiere Pro.exe (usually in C:\Program Files\Adobe...).
Once added, click on it, hit Options, then select High Performance (NVIDIA GPU) and save.
Also, double-check in NVIDIA Control Panel > Program Settings that Premiere is set to use the NVIDIA GPU.
If this still doesn’t solve it, it might be worth reaching out to Adobe directly — there may be a bug or compatibility issue with the latest Premiere versions and certain NVIDIA drivers on this model.
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi @zoey7886
What you mentioned about forcing the use of the NVIDIA GPU is exactly what I did, and it didn't work unless I selected the INTEL GPU of the computer.
I have opened a case with Adobe, but I am having some issues with them. As you are the laptop manufacturer, can't you escalate the case internally to NVIDIA to get a response from them?
Thanks for your support,
Frank

Hi @carfras,
Thank you for getting back and sharing the update — totally understand how frustrating this must be, especially when you've got a powerful system that's not performing the way it should for your workflow.
Regarding your request to escalate the case to NVIDIA: as much as we'd love to help you further on that front, HP doesn’t have the ability to raise support tickets directly with NVIDIA on behalf of individual users. Since this is a driver or compatibility issue likely tied to how Adobe Premiere interacts with the NVIDIA GPU, the best course of action would be for you to reach out to NVIDIA support directly. They may be able to investigate deeper, especially if others are reporting similar issues.
We’ll definitely keep monitoring for updates on our end too, in case anything comes up through future driver or software updates that could help.
Appreciate your patience and hope you’re able to get this resolved soon!
