Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Power settings are set to do nothing when the lid is closed while on battery or plugged in.

With the laptop LID/MONITOR PHYSICALLY CLOSED in use or not, when any external monitor is everything works as expected.

With the laptop LID/MONITOR PHYSICALLY OPENED in use or not, when any brand or type of external monitor is connected to either USB-C or HDMI or if a dock is present and a monitor is connected to a HP Display port, the following failure occurs:

RANDOMLY, I cannot click on anything or when I hover over an icon in the quick launch toolbar, on the main desktop, or in the active software, they are NOT selectable.  The keyboard also does not respond.

My mouse itself moves around normally.

The only way to recover or gain function again requires a combination of keys

  1. press the keys CTRL + ALT + DEL
  2. Wait 2-5 seconds after the standard popup (Lock, sign out, change password, etc)
  3. Now press the ESC button.
  4. At that point, I can click on something and may be able to use the software I opened or maybe not.  If still in the same situation, I have to repeat steps 1-3 to get the functionality in that software.
  5. Next time I want to use something, I would generally need to start over at step#1 😩
