HP ENVY x360 - 15-dr0001nia

Hi.

I have an annoying problem, after one update of the system (When I bought the laptop, before the update, all worked correctly), my webcam disappeared from Device Manager.

My camera and microphone don't work. When I click the camera app I see this:

To add, the disable switch button isn't the problem. I have reset my PC and tried updating my drivers.

I read a lot of similar topics, but I didn't find the solution to my problem. I also couldn't find any WebCam driver for my laptop. How is it possible that HP doesn't support it and provide drivers for the webcam?

The device is an HP Envy x360 15-dr0003-nw.

Hi @Paul_frey,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to have your webcam and microphone stop working after a system update. Let's try a few troubleshooting steps to see if we can resolve the issue.

1. Check for Hardware Issues

Firstly, let's make sure there isn't a hardware issue with your webcam. You can do this by performing a hardware test.

  • BIOS/UEFI Check: Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS or UEFI settings. Look for an option to run a hardware diagnostic test. This varies depending on the laptop model, so refer to your user manual or HP's support website for instructions specific to your ENVY X360 model.
  • HP PC Hardware Diagnostics: Many HP laptops come with built-in diagnostics. You can access this by restarting your laptop and pressing the ESC key repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears. From there, select the appropriate diagnostic option.

2. Reinstall the Webcam Driver

Since you mentioned you couldn't find a specific webcam driver for your laptop, let's try reinstalling the driver that's likely to be associated with your webcam.

  1. Press Windows + X on your keyboard and select "Device Manager" from the list.
  2. Look for any entries under "Imaging devices" or "Cameras." If you see your webcam listed with a warning symbol (yellow triangle), right-click on it and select "Uninstall device."
  3. Restart your laptop.
  4. Windows should automatically reinstall the webcam driver. Check if the webcam works after this.

3. Windows Update

Sometimes, Windows updates can cause conflicts. Let's make sure you have all the latest updates.

  1. Press Windows + I to open the Settings app.
  2. Go to Update & Security > Windows Update.
  3. Click on "Check for updates" and let Windows install any pending updates.

4. Privacy Settings

Windows 10 and 11 have privacy settings that control access to the camera and microphone. Let's ensure they're not blocking your webcam.

  1. Go to Settings (Windows + I) > Privacy.
  2. Under "App permissions," click on "Camera" and make sure "Allow apps to access your camera" is turned on.
  3. Also, check "Microphone" under "App permissions" and ensure it's enabled.

5. System Restore (if applicable)

If you suspect the issue started after a specific Windows update, you can try restoring your system to a point before that update.

  1. Type "System Restore" in the Windows search bar and select "Create a restore point."
  2. In the System Properties window, click on "System Restore."
  3. Follow the prompts to choose a restore point before the update.
  4. Let the system restore complete, and then check if the webcam is working.

Remember to backup important data before attempting any significant changes to your system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello,

Thank you for your response, however, I have gone through all these means to try to reinstall my camera driver but to no avail. In my BIOS setup, I ran a hardware diagnostic test and nothing changed. My device manager imaging can be found but the driver there is used for printing and scanning, and the camera driver itself is missing, I have tried resetting my PC to a previous point but it hasn't solved the problem. Can you direct me to how I can download a camera driver, I feel that will solve the issues, my laptop is mostly used for meetings and now it's an issue.
I have tried downloading a driver from the HP website but I can't find a webcam or camera driver. I do not want to download a driver from an untrusted source.

Kindly assist.
