I have an HP 15 laptop. It is not producing 24-bit true colors. The colors are washed out. When I edit a photo in Adobe Lightroom and then export it in my smartphone, I see a major difference in colors. Even my Lenovo K8 Note smartphone is producing good colors. What's the problem with HP displays? Does it even support 24-bit colors or not?

@kdb13 Welcome to HP Forums Community!

Your laptop has 15.6" diagonal FHD SVA anti-glare micro-edge WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080) and here's what that means for you:

The Anti-glare means that the display’s front surface has been treated in one of several ways to reduce the reflection of ambient light, giving it a matte appearance and scattering (but not really reducing) reflected light, including such things as quarter-wave anti-reflection coatings and other low-reflection surface treatments which don’t have the undesirable side effect of causing the appearance of a haze over the image.

Hence, though it supports 24-bit color on your laptop, other devices could have a different view, it's not similar to the other products you may have.

If you are right then is there any way to remove these haziness and produce true colors. Because one cannot edit photos on such a laptop. And if all the HP laptops have this Anti-Glare coating, then who would buy an HP laptop...

@kdb13 Not all laptops have this feature, that said, you may adjust the color or calibrate the same using this related post: Click here to access it.

(Remember, the product could be different, but the steps would apply to your device as well)

The calibration you mentioned didn't solve my problem. It's asking that we can adjust the brightness and contrast using the hardware buttons on the monitor.

But what to do with a laptop display?

@kdb13 I recommend you reinstall Adobe application or install it on a new user account to check if that works, as the laptop may look differently depending on the model series you've purchased, also, the steps I've mentioned is for a laptop and its worked for the other user, hence its tried and tested, if it isn't working for your device, please check with an alternate application to edit your photos or connect an external monitor to check if that makes any difference.

I completely get that Anti-Glare displays reduce the color contrast to give no reflections. Thanks for your answer.

Is there any software solution to increase the contrast on such matte displays so that we get near to true colors ?

HP Recommended

@kdb13

This is by design because of the Anti Glare coating and 3rd party Softwares will not really make any difference in increasing the contrast
