@Drea781, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

It sounds like your HP laptop is not allowing you to enter your PIN because the alphabet keys on your keyboard aren't working, while the number keys are functional. This can happen due to a few reasons, such as keyboard layout issues, driver glitches, or system input settings. Let’s walk through some steps to resolve this:

Try Using the On-Screen Keyboard

You can use the on-screen keyboard to log in temporarily:

  1. On the PIN entry screen, click “Sign-in options”.
  2. Select “I forgot my PIN” or choose “Password” if available.
  3. Click the Ease of Access icon (bottom-right corner).
  4. Select On-Screen Keyboard.
  5. Use your mouse to enter your PIN or password.

Check Keyboard Layout Settings

Sometimes the keyboard layout changes unexpectedly:

  1. After logging in, press Windows + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to Time & Language > Language & Region.
  3. Under Preferred languages, click your language (e.g., English).
  4. Click Options and ensure the keyboard layout is correct (e.g., US QWERTY).
  5. Remove any unfamiliar layouts.

Reinstall Keyboard Driver

Corrupted drivers can cause key input issues:

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Keyboards.
  3. Right-click your keyboard device and choose Uninstall device.
  4. Restart your laptop, Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

Try External Keyboard

If the issue persists, plug in a USB or Bluetooth keyboard to check if the problem is hardware-related.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

To check for hardware issues:

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  • Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the Keyboard Test.

Reset PIN (if needed)

If you're unable to log in at all:

I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!
