HP Pavilion - 15-au147cl

I reformatted my HP laptop, X7U96UA#ABA / 15-au147cl (Windows 10), to give to my daughter (using the HP Recovery Tool).  After some Windows updates the touch screen stopped working.  I tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling. . .and  I then tried uninstalling and restarting. . .I've done both of those numerous times and sometimes those options work, but never for long.  Any suggestions?

Hi @PJ03,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with the touch screen on your HP Pavilion 15. There could be various reasons why the touch screen is not working, and I'll provide you with some troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the problem.

  • Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix temporary glitches or software issues that may be affecting the touch screen.
  • Check touch screen settings: Make sure that the touch screen functionality is enabled in the Windows settings. To do this, go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Touchpad" and ensure that "Touchpad" is set to "On."
  • Update drivers: Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause problems with the touch screen. Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your laptop's touch screen. Install them and see if it resolves the issue.
  • Calibrate the touch screen: Windows has a built-in touch screen calibration tool that can help improve accuracy. To access it, go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Touchpad" > "Additional settings" > "Calibrate."
  • Check for Windows updates: Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes, Microsoft releases updates that address known issues and bugs.
  • Scan for malware: Malware or viruses can cause strange behavior on your computer, including issues with the touch screen. Run a full system scan using your preferred antivirus software.
  • Disable conflicting software: Sometimes, third-party software can interfere with touchscreen functionality. Try disabling any recently installed software to see if it makes a difference.
  • Factory reset (last resort): If none of the above steps work and the touch screen is still not functioning, you can consider performing a factory reset. This will restore your laptop to its original state, but it will delete all your data. Make sure to back up your important files before attempting this step.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your time in replying, Alden4, but I think you misunderstood my problem.  My Touch PAD works fine; it's my Touch SCREEN that's no longer working.  I will share the details again below. . .

Product: HP Pavilion - 15-au147cl

I formatted the hard drive in my HP laptop, X7U96UA#ABA / 15-au147cl (Windows 10), to give to my daughter (using the HP Recovery Tool).  After formatting the drive and getting everything installed everything worked fine, but after some Windows updates the touch screen stopped working.  I tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling. . .and  I then tried uninstalling and restarting. . .I've done both of those numerous times and sometimes those options have worked, but never for long.  Any help will be so very appreciated.
