Hi @LukasSlovakia,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

If your HP 15.6-inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4V9AV) is unable to detect an external display, the issue might be related to the display drivers or system settings. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and fix this problem:

1. Check Display Connections:

  • Ensure that the HDMI, DisplayPort, or VGA cable (depending on what you’re using) is securely connected to both the laptop and the external display.
  • Try using a different cable or port on both the laptop and the display to rule out any hardware issues.

2. Update or Reinstall Display Drivers:

  • Update Drivers:
    1. Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand the Display adapters section.
    3. Right-click on your graphics card (e.g., Intel UHD Graphics, NVIDIA, or AMD) and select Update driver.
    4. Choose Search automatically for drivers. If an update is found, install it and restart your laptop.
  • Reinstall Drivers:
    1. In Device Manager, right-click on the display adapter and select Uninstall device.
    2. After the uninstall is complete, restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the display driver upon reboot.
    3. You can also manually download the latest drivers from the HP Support website or the GPU manufacturer’s site (Intel, NVIDIA, AMD).

3. Check Display Settings:

  • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
  • Scroll down to Multiple displays and click on Detect. If the external display is detected, select the appropriate display mode (Extend, Duplicate, etc.).
  • If the display is still not detected, try adjusting the resolution settings under Display resolution to match that of the external monitor.

4. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website and enter your laptop's model number (15-e2000) to check for any available BIOS updates or chipset drivers. Updating these can resolve issues related to external displays.

5. Use the Windows + P Shortcut:

  • Press Windows + P on your keyboard to open the display projection options.
  • Select one of the options such as Duplicate, Extend, or Second screen only to force the laptop to detect the external display.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @LukasSlovakia,

Please find the remaining steps below.

6. Test with a Different External Monitor:

  • If possible, try connecting your laptop to a different external monitor to see if the issue is specific to the Samsung display.
  • If another monitor works, the problem might be with the original external monitor rather than the laptop.

7. Check the Graphics Control Panel (Intel/NVIDIA/AMD):

  • Open the graphics control panel specific to your GPU (Intel Graphics Control Panel, NVIDIA Control Panel, or AMD Radeon Software).
  • Look for options to detect or configure multiple displays.

8. Perform a System Restore or Windows Update:

  • If the issue started recently, you can try performing a System Restore to revert your system to a point before the issue began.
  • Alternatively, check for any pending Windows Updates, as these can sometimes include fixes for display-related issues.

9. Try a Clean Boot:

  • Perform a clean boot to ensure no third-party software or services are interfering with the display detection.
    1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
    2. Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Disable all.
    3. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager. Disable all startup items.
    4. Restart your laptop and see if the external display is detected.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it could indicate a deeper hardware problem, in which case contacting HP phone support for further assistance might be necessary.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
