HP pavilion g series
I have been using an external display for my laptop since the screen had broken, all of a sudden it stopped working. I'm pretty sure it's windows 7 but I can't remember for sure. I can see the top 1/4 inch of my screen so I know I get to the sign in screen, but hitting enter won't log me in and using the display change button doesn't do anything. My external screen reads it as being plugged in but I can't get any display, HDMI doesn't do anything either. Any options? Was thinking about resetting, not too concerned with any of my files but unsure how to do it blind. Any help is appreciated!

Hey there! @MrMojoRisin9109, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand you have display issues with your PC there is no display on the external monitor.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

Have you tried checking with a different HDMI cable or a different monitor?

Are you able to boot into BIOS and check if you can see the display?

Please provide the product number of your PC to assist you better.

As you mentioned you have display issues with your PC there is no display on the external monitor.

Try the monitor on another PC to ensure the monitor is functional.

Try checking with a different monitor or different cable and check if it helps.

Press Fn key + F4 key to extend the displays.

Extend your display by changing display settings.
a. Open Screen Resolution by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, and then, under Appearance and Personalization, clicking Adjust screen resolution
b. Click the drop-down list next to Multiple displays, click Extend these displays, and then click OK.

If the issue still persists uninstall the graphics driver from device manager and install the latest graphics driver and BIOS on your PC.

You can update the drivers on your PC using HP support assistant.
