I recently (around 4 weeks ago) purchased an HP Spectre x360 along with the HP Pen.
At first the pen worked okay despite taking a fair bit of getting used to, but now it frequently is not recognised by the computer in the middle of using it - this means that I'll be halfway through writing and the computer will suddenly stop recognising the pen and cut off the writing mid-word, which is very frustrating. This usually persists for about 5 seconds before the pen is once again recognised and I can write again. It tends to happen pretty regularly (once every few minutes) but never for longer than 5 or so seconds, and I haven't found any other way of forcing the computer to recognise the pen again other than just waiting.
The computer is still responsive to my finger to move the screen around or open apps, so I'm confident that it's a problem with the pen.
I replaced the battery (although you'd think this wouldn't be necessary after only a few weeks of use) and updated all drivers and software on the computer, and neither has helped at all.
NOTE: the OS is Windows 10 64 bit and the product is HP Pen/HP Spectre x360, but for some reason I get an error ("You do not have sufficient privileges for this resource or its parent to perform this action.
Click your browser's Back button to continue." ) if I include this information in the appropriate boxes.

Hi@lev8888,
Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,
Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC? Did you purchase the Pen separately or did it come with your notebook?
Please share the product number and operating system you are running on your PC to assist you better.
If the pen does not write consistently while your fist or palm is touching the screen, make sure the pen tip is 5mm or farther from the point where your hand is contacting the screen.
Try few troubleshooting steps below and check if it helps.
Reinstall the original touchscreen device driver that came installed on your computer using the following steps:
1. In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
2. Expand the Human Interface Devices heading.
3. The touchscreen device is labelled HID-compliant touch screen, or similar. Right-click the touchscreen device and select Uninstall.
4. Confirm the uninstallation.
5. Restart the computer to reinstall the touchscreen driver.
Also, update the BIOS and graphics driver on your PC and check if it helps.
You can try updating the drivers using the HP support assistant.

Hi Praveenbv,
Thank you for your response.
I haven't made any software or hardware changse, and I purchased the pen separately but at the same time and from the same store (HP Store Australia) as the computer.
The product is an HP Spectre x360 Laptop - 15-eb0046tx, and it's running Windows 10.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the touchscreen driver as you suggested, and after a short period of writing this does to have greatly improved the problem - I'll update here if it returns.
Thank you!
