Hi @Arnie_Mpofu,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When a detachable keyboard is not working despite the device itself functioning properly with a different keyboard, several factors could be causing the issue. Given that swapping the keyboards demonstrated that the device is capable of recognizing and working with a keyboard, the problem likely lies within the non-functioning keyboard itself or its interaction with the device. Here are some potential causes and steps you can take to diagnose or fix the problem:
Connection Issue: Ensure that the keyboard is properly connected to the device. Sometimes, debris or dust in the connecting port or on the contacts can prevent a good connection. Clean the connectors carefully with a dry, soft brush or compressed air.
Driver or Software Issue: The keyboard may require specific drivers or software to operate correctly. Check the HP website for any required software or driver updates. If the keyboard worked before and recently stopped, consider whether any recent updates or changes could have affected its functionality.
Hardware Fault: There might be a hardware fault with the keyboard itself. This could be due to internal damage, a faulty connection inside the keyboard, or wear and tear. If you have the skills and it’s safe to do so, inspect the keyboard for any visible signs of damage.
Battery Issues (if wireless): If the keyboard is wireless, ensure that its battery is charged or replace the battery if it’s not rechargeable. Sometimes, low battery power can cause the keyboard to malfunction or not work at all.
Compatibility Issues: Make sure the keyboard is fully compatible with your device. Even though it physically connects, there could be compatibility issues preventing it from functioning properly. This is more common with third-party accessories.
Reset or Re-pair: If the keyboard is designed to be paired with the device (especially in the case of Bluetooth keyboards), try unpairing and then re-pairing it. This can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
