Hi, I have a HP tilt 2.0 pen (part M23867) for my laptop HP Pavillion 14-DY0502SA but I can’t get it to connect.
it came with the laptop so surely must be compatible?
when I charge it I only get a faint white light, no amber light appears as per the instructions? Not sure if it is faulty?
there is nothing in the instructions about how to get the pen into pairing mode? Does it have to pair? Is it a Bluetooth device? I have no idea?
hoping someone can help me?

Hi @acashman,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks so much for reaching out — I know it can be confusing when a pen comes with your device but doesn't seem to connect or behave as expected. I’m here to help clear things up and get you going.
You're right to assume that if the HP Tilt Pen 2.0 (part M23867) was bundled with your HP Pavilion 14-dy0502sa, it should be compatible — but let’s walk through a few key points just to be sure everything’s working as it should.
Yes, the HP Tilt Pen 2.0 is a Bluetooth-enabled digital pen, and it does require pairing to your laptop if you want to use the Bluetooth-specific features like button customization or presentation controls.
However, for basic inking and drawing (like writing in Microsoft OneNote or drawing in apps), it should start working automatically with a compatible touchscreen — no pairing required.
How to Put the Pen into Pairing Mode
To enter pairing mode:
- Press and hold the top (flat) button on the pen for about 3–5 seconds.
- The LED light should start blinking, which means it’s ready to pair.
- On your laptop:
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device.
- Select Bluetooth, and the pen should appear as "HP Tilt Pen" or similar.
If nothing happens when holding the button, or it doesn't show up in Bluetooth, there could be a fault with the button or the internal battery.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thqnks Vikram,
I have seen similar advice in other posts, but the pen does not have a top button.
There is just the sliding top/side panel to access the usb charging port
I have tried pressing as suggested but no blue light. I am thinking this pen is faulty?
Kind reagrds,
Andrew

Hi Vikram,
I cant see any part or serial numbers on the device itself.
The only numbers I can find on the box are:
HP P/N M23867-01
M901120013764
Numbers on the instruction leaflet are:
L93571-823
All as per the photos attached.
Kind regards,
Andrew
