HP ProBook 450 G1 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've been using an HP Probook 450 G1 since 2014. I've used Windows 8.1 64bit most of the time. It has an AMD HD Radeon 8750M (2GB). I've taken full advantage of it and played all kinds of games supported by the laptop's other hardware.

The problem started a few months ago when I added an extra RAM and an SSD, and then booted my laptop with Windows 10 64bit. I went to the driver list for this laptop on the HP website and there wasn't any driver for the AMD GPU, there was, however, still a driver for the integrated Intel HD graphics which I installed. For the time being, I installed the AMD driver I had for Windows 8.1 and it was shown on my apps section and the icon "configure switchable graphics" was shown on my desktop whenever I clicked the right button so I thought it was working. But then I noticed that my games aren't running that smoothly, which indicated that the AMD GPU wasn't functioning. I thought it was a heating issue as my laptop used to get too hot and so I cleaned the laptop fan and changed the thermal paste on both the GPU and CPU.

Then I went to the AMD website and downloaded the latest adrenaline software, but whenever I tried to install it, after extracting the files, "error 173: AMD software install cannot proceed as no AMD graphics hardware has been detected in your system." popped up.

then after a few days of searching, I found and downloaded the adrenaline software specifically for my GPU model (which is a legacy product now) titled: "radeon-software-adrenalin-2020-22.6.1-win10-win11-64bit-legacyasics-june23-2022-legacy". But, I still get the same error every time. I also found out that the AMD isn't listed under the "Display Adapters" in the Device Manager.

My questions are:

1. Is my GPU damaged due to excess heat? is that why the hardware can't be detected anymore?

2. IF not, is it because windows 10 no longer supports this GPU model on my laptop?

Please give me some solutions. Thanks in advance.

Hi:

What I recommend you try, after you uninstall all of the AMD drivers and software you installed, and restart the PC, would be the W10 AMD graphics driver from the HP Probook 650 G1, which also had the AMD HD 8750M/Intel switchable graphics option.

Driver - HP ProBook 650 G1 Notebook PC | HP® Customer Support

This link on the driver page shows support for the AMD Radeon HD 8750M GPU.

It didn't work bro.

When I run the installation, it shows "completed" on command prompt but it's actually not.

Sorry that driver didn't work for you.

Unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions for you to try.
