I've owned my x360 since June of 2020. The screen would randomly go blank at times and stay out for 10-20 seconds. I upgraded to Windows 11 about two months and thought that might resolve the issue. While it was less frequent it didn't resolve the problem. Today I was using the laptop, and stepped away for a few moments, only return to a blank screen. After multiple troubleshooting steps listed below, I can only get the laptop to work by using an external monitor. The crazy thing is that the touch screen still works, (verified on the external monitor) although the screen is blank.
- Pulled the battery and restarted
- Reinstalled BIOS using WinKey + B
- Updated the BIOS using the HP installer
- Updated the Intel and Nvidia drivers
- Reverted to the previous version of Intel driver.
- Reseated memory stick
It's worth mentioning the laptop screen is not detected under display settings. Also, if I shut the down the laptop, and unplug the external monitor, the laptop will not boot until the external monitor is reconnected. I know this has been asked before, but I didn't discover any solutions.

Hi@ClutchHand,
Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!
I see you are experiencing screen issues with the HP Spectre X360 Laptop.
I have a few recommendations
- Update your Notebook computer to the latest BIOS from HP.COM.
- Try doing Reset PC Keep my files from windows and check if it works
- Make sure the Windows and HP support assistant updates are up to date.
Try and check in Bios using the F10 key if the screen is blank in Bios. To enter Bios, click restart and keep tapping the F10 key and then turn on the PC at the same time to enter Bios screen.
If the issue persists in Bios then it is a hardware issue on the screen.
