Microsoft Windows 11

Hi all,

I have an HP15, Product number: 8QQ67AV, that I bought roughly 5 years ago. For some strange reason, the screen has been flickering for a little while now (roughly since Windows 10 was updated to Windows 11). After lots of troubleshooting, it really does feel that it is the IRIS Graphics Driver. The screen only stops flickering when I uninstall the driver - and then starts misbehaving again when the laptop decides to reinstall the graphics driver. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi @Manuel00,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with the screen flickering.

It sounds like your HP15 (Product number: 8QQ67AV) is experiencing screen flickering issues related to the Intel Iris Graphics Driver after  upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11. This could be compatibility issue as this PC may not work on windows 11.

However, here’s a step-by-step guide to help you resolve this issue:

1. Update the Graphics Driver:

  • Download Latest Driver:
    • Visit the Intel website or the HP Support website to download the latest version of the Intel Iris Graphics Driver for your laptop.
  • Install the Driver:
    • Follow the installation instructions provided on the website. This may resolve compatibility issues introduced by the Windows 11 upgrade.

2. Roll Back to Previous Driver:

  • Access Device Manager:
    • Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
  • Roll Back Driver:
    • Expand the Display adapters section, right-click on Intel Iris Graphics, and select Properties.
    • Go to the Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver if the option is available. Follow the prompts to revert to the previous driver version.

3. Use Windows Update to Find a Compatible Driver:

  • Check for Updates:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click Check for updates. Windows may find and install a driver that is compatible with Windows 11.

4. Adjust Refresh Rate:

  • Change Display Settings:
    • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
    • Scroll down and click on Advanced display settings.
    • Check if the refresh rate is set to the recommended value. If not, try adjusting it and see if it resolves the flickering issue.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Manuel00,

Please find the remaining steps below.

5. Disable Hardware Acceleration:

  • Check Hardware Acceleration Settings:
    • Some applications use hardware acceleration, which can sometimes cause flickering. Disable hardware acceleration in applications like web browsers and other software to see if it helps.

6. Perform a Clean Installation of the Driver:

  • Uninstall the Driver Completely:
    • Go to Device Manager, right-click on Intel Iris Graphics, and select Uninstall device. Check the box that says Delete the driver software for this device if available.
  • Reinstall the Driver:
    • Download the latest driver from the Intel or HP website and install it. This ensures a clean installation without remnants of old driver versions.

7. Check for System Updates and BIOS Updates:

  • Update Windows:
    • Ensure your Windows 11 installation is fully updated by checking for updates in Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Update BIOS:
    • Visit the HP Support website and search for BIOS updates for your laptop model. Updating the BIOS can sometimes resolve hardware compatibility issues.

8. Test with an External Monitor:

  • Verify if the Issue is Hardware-Related:
    • Connect your laptop to an external monitor. If the flickering does not occur on the external monitor, the issue may be related to the laptop's screen or internal components rather than the driver.

By following these steps, you should be able to address the screen flickering issue related to the Intel Iris Graphics Driver on your HP15 laptop.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, contact HP Phone Support for further assistance. There may be a hardware issue
