Can someone please tell me if this is a hardware issue as HP support keep telling me it's software.

That's definitely a hardware issue, the LED back lighting has partially failed.

Hi,

 

Thanks for confirming. I am so frustrated as HP support is telling me it's a software issue which I knew was not the case.
