Hi @wanhui,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Black horizontal lines on your HP laptop screen can be caused by a variety of issues, ranging from software glitches to hardware problems. Here are steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Restart Your Laptop:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve display issues. Restart your laptop and check if the black lines persist.

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Outdated or corrupt graphics drivers can cause display problems. Update your graphics drivers to the latest version.
  • Go to Device Manager -> Display adapters -> Right-click on your graphics card -> Update driver.

Check Display Settings:

  • Ensure your display settings are correct.
  • Right-click on the desktop -> Display settings -> Ensure the resolution is set to the recommended setting.

Check for Software Issues:

  • Boot into Safe Mode to see if the lines appear there. If they do not, a software issue might be the cause.
  • Perform a clean boot to determine if a startup program or service is causing the issue.

External Monitor Test:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV using an HDMI or VGA cable. If the lines do not appear on the external display, the issue might be with your laptop’s screen or internal display connections.

Hardware Troubleshooting:

Check for Loose Connections:

  • Sometimes, the connection between the screen and the motherboard can become loose. This requires opening the laptop, which can be tricky and should be done with caution.

Physical Damage:

  • Inspect the screen for any visible damage. Physical damage can cause display issues. If there is damage, the screen may need to be replaced.

Internal Hardware Issue:

  • If the above steps do not resolve the issue, there may be a problem with the laptop’s internal hardware, such as the graphics card or motherboard.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
