Hi @Frank1033,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Hello! It sounds like you want to make sure your NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 is being utilized properly in your Envy 17 laptop. This GPU can significantly enhance performance, especially in graphics-intensive applications like gaming, video editing, and 3D modeling. Here are some steps and tips to ensure you're making the most out of your GeForce 3050:

1. Update Your Drivers

  • Ensure that your GPU drivers are up to date. This can greatly improve performance and compatibility with applications.
  • You can update your NVIDIA drivers through the NVIDIA GeForce Experience app or by downloading them directly from the NVIDIA website.

2. Check GPU Usage

  • You can check whether your GPU is being used by specific applications. Use the NVIDIA Control Panel or Windows Task Manager:
    • NVIDIA Control Panel: Right-click on the desktop and select "NVIDIA Control Panel". Go to "Desktop" in the menu and check "Display GPU Activity Icon in Notification Area". This will show you which applications are currently using the GPU.
    • Task Manager: Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, switch to the "Performance" tab, and select "GPU 0". You should see if any apps are actively using the GPU under the GPU engine column in the "Processes" tab.

3. Configure NVIDIA Settings

  • Use the NVIDIA Control Panel to manage 3D settings:
    • Right-click on the desktop and open "NVIDIA Control Panel".
    • Go to "Manage 3D settings".
    • Under "Global Settings", you can set the "Preferred graphics processor" to "High-performance NVIDIA processor". This forces apps to use the NVIDIA GPU.
    • Alternatively, under "Program Settings", you can specify which graphics processor to use for individual applications.

4. Optimize Power Settings

  • Ensure that your laptop is set for maximum performance:
    • Right-click on the battery icon in the system tray, go to "Power Options", and select a high-performance plan, or customize your plan to prefer maximum performance.
    • In NVIDIA Control Panel under "Manage 3D settings", set "Power management mode" to "Prefer maximum performance".

5. Monitoring and Testing

  • Use software like GPU-Z or MSI Afterburner to monitor your GPU’s usage and performance in real-time.
  • Run benchmarks or stress tests to see how well your GPU performs. This can also help verify if it’s active and working as expected.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
