Hi @Sonal1298,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

The issue you're describing with your Chromebook screen acting as if it is being randomly touched is commonly referred to as "ghost touches." This can be caused by a few different factors, including software glitches, a faulty touchscreen, or physical issues with the screen. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially fix the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

Restart Your Chromebook:

  • A simple restart can sometimes resolve temporary software glitches.

Update Chrome OS:

  • Ensure your Chromebook is running the latest version of Chrome OS. Updates often include fixes for hardware and software issues.
  • Go to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for updates.

Clean the Screen:

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or a screen cleaner to clean the screen. Ensure there are no residues or dirt that might be causing phantom touches.

Check for External Interference:

  • Remove any external devices connected to your Chromebook (USB devices, external monitors, etc.) and see if the issue persists.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Perform a hard reset of your Chromebook to clear the hardware state.
  • Turn off your Chromebook, press and hold the Refresh button, then tap the Power button. Release the Refresh button when the Chromebook starts up.

Calibrate the Touchscreen:

  • Some Chromebooks allow you to calibrate the touchscreen.
  • Go to Settings > Device > Displays > Touchscreen Calibration (if available).

Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Sonal1298,

Please find the next set of steps below.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • Inspect the screen for any visible damage or warping that could cause ghost touches.
  • Ensure the screen bezel is properly seated and there are no physical obstructions or pressure points.

Powerwash (Factory Reset):

  • As a last resort, you can perform a Powerwash to reset your Chromebook to its factory settings.
  • Settings > Advanced > Reset settings > Powerwash > Restart.
  • This will erase all local data, so be sure to back up any important files before doing this.

If the Problem Persists:

If the above steps don't resolve the issue, it's likely that there is a hardware problem with the touchscreen. In this case, you may need to contact HP phone support or to the nearest service center for service.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
