I am using a HP Pavilion Plus Laptop 14-eh1000na running Windows 11. Until recently I was using an older (c. 2019) HP Pavilion running Windows 10. On that laptop I was able to configure the touchpad settings to enable chiral scrolling. I can’t find a way to do this on the new laptop, which is a huge drawback as I find chiral scrolling much less tiring than the two-fingered version. I do a lot of browsing and scrolling, and after a couple of hours I feel like I’m developing repetitive strain injury from constantly having to lift my fingers from the touchpad. I know there was an earlier (2020) conversation here on this topic but it’s not clear if it was ever resolved. That person included a screenshot of his device’s registry editor showing that a chiral scrolling folder existed. I have checked mine and I have that folder too. Please tell me this means there is some simple way for chiral scrolling to be enabled!

Hi @Tel57 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are trying to enable chiral scrolling on your HP Pavilion Plus Laptop 14-eh1000na running Windows 11 might not be as straightforward as it was on your previous Windows 10 machine, but it's still possible.
Here's a step-by-step guide to help you enable chiral scrolling:
- Open Registry Editor: Press Win + R to open the Run dialog, type regedit, and press Enter. If prompted by User Account Control, click "Yes" to allow the app to make changes to your device.
- Navigate to the Chiral Scrolling Registry Key: In Registry Editor, navigate to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\
- Create a New DWORD Value: Right-click on the right-hand pane, select New, and then click on DWORD (32-bit) Value.
- Name the New Value: Name the new DWORD value ChiralScrolling and press Enter.
- Set the Value Data: Double-click on the ChiralScrolling DWORD you just created and set its value to 1. This will enable chiral scrolling.
- Restart Your Computer: Close the Registry Editor and restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
After restarting your computer, check if chiral scrolling is now enabled. You may need to adjust additional touchpad settings in the Windows Settings app or the touchpad driver settings to customize the behavior further.
Remember, modifying the registry can potentially cause system instability or even damage if done incorrectly, so proceed with caution and make sure to follow the steps accurately.

Hi Gaya1239,
Thanks for your response. I have followed your instructions (see screenshot) but unfortunately it has not worked – I still don’t have chiral scrolling. I also can’t find anything in either the Windows touchpad settings or the driver settings that makes a difference. In the Windows settings the only option seems to be two-fingered scrolling (on or off), and in the driver settings there don’t seem to be any options apart from updating or uninstalling the driver. Similarly, there doesn’t seem to be anything relevant in the user manual. I’m very grateful to you for trying to help, and I’m really hoping you might have some more suggestions for me to try! To be honest, I don’t understand why such a useful and ergonomic feature should be so difficult to enable, and indeed, why it isn’t enabled by default!

Apologies for jumping in unannounced.
I was curious about this --
From what I can find, Chiral Scrolling might not even be a standard feature in Windows or the drivers.
One of the many answers found on the Internet:
How to enable Chiral Scroll on touchpad in Windows 10
Chiral Scrolling might require changes not found in the regular settings format.
Leaping away and striding into the distance..

Hi Dragon Fur,
Thanks for your reply. I think you’re probably correct that chiral scrolling is not a standard feature; it certainly doesn’t seem like either Microsoft or Synaptics want to promote it or even admit it exists! I really don’t understand why, as in my opinion it’s a really useful feature.
I had come across the download on SourceForge (which was linked to from the request you linked to), but I’m wary of downloading random things off the internet, so I haven’t tried it. I just hope that’s not the only solution available.

You are welcome.
Assuming this is not a normal Windows accessible feature, you will likely have to make a choice how and whether or not to proceed.
I cannot venture a promise on whether you can trust what you find.
I tend to extreme caution and have been called paranoid on occasion.
I can live with that moniker when it comes to the Internet.
Smiling.
Good Luck.
