HP Laptop - 17-ca2097nr

Hi, my camera seems to be completely gone from my laptop. Everything is saying we cannot detect your camera or no camera detected and I do not see the camera even showing on my devices/drivers list. The only changes may have been the automated updates. I had a zoom meeting today and no camera was found.  The camera is completely removed from my device and I'm unable to choose a restore point/date, Can I download the camera again?

I do have this error message:

0xA00F4244

The system cannot detect the camera.

@MarieV03, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

To troubleshoot and resolve issues with your camera not being detected on your HP Laptop - 17-ca2097nr, follow these steps:

1. Ensure Camera is Enabled

Sometimes, the camera might be disabled through settings. Check if this is the case:

  1. Press the Windows key and type 'Device Manager'.
  2. In Device Manager, look for 'Camera' or 'Imaging devices'.
  3. If the camera is not listed, proceed to the next step.

2. Updating Camera Driver

Since the issue might have occurred after an update, updating or reinstalling the camera driver might help:

  1. Open the HP Support Assistant.
  2. Select 'Updates' and check for camera driver updates.
  3. If HP Support Assistant does not detect the camera, try searching for drivers directly on the HP drivers and downloads page.

3. Reinstall the Camera Driver Manually

You can manually reinstall the camera driver:

  1. Go to the official HP support website.
  2. Search for your model 'HP Laptop - 17-ca2097nr'.
  3. Look for available camera drivers under 'Software and Drivers'.
  4. Download the appropriate driver and install it.

4. Running Windows Update

Ensure your Windows OS is up to date, as sometimes updates fix hardware issues:

  1. Press the Windows key and select 'Settings'.
  2. Go to 'Update & Security'.
  3. Click 'Check for updates' and install any available updates.

5. Using Device Manager to Detect Hardware Changes

You may need to scan for hardware changes manually:

  1. Open 'Device Manager'.
  2. Click on 'Action' at the top toolbar.
  3. Select 'Scan for hardware changes'.
  4. Check if the camera appears in the list.

6. Check if Camera is Disabled in BIOS

In rare cases, the camera might be disabled in the BIOS. Here is how to check:

  1. Restart your laptop and press Esc key during boot to enter BIOS.
  2. Navigate to 'Advanced' or 'Security' settings.
  3. Check for Camera settings and ensure it is enabled.
  4. Save changes and exit BIOS.
