I've looked through lots of answers to other peoples questions on the same topic and have tried most of them. Nothing seems to work..

Any ideas?

You can just "Disable" it or "Disable it when external USB is connected".

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

I can't bring that dialogue box up..

I can bring up a dialogue box for the click pad and there is an option to disable but, it is shaded(?) out and you can't click on it.

Any other thoughts?

Do you see the box "Additional Settings"???

If so then click on it.

Thanks for your reply.

I've tried that but that I do not get the option of disabling the touchpad/clickpad (see above reply)..

This is what it is : Synaptics SMBus ClickPad

Hope this helps...
