This laptop is 3 days old. I bought this model because it has backlight on keyboard and I have vision issues.  The F5 key does work but it turns on and off only.  There should be an in between light that is a bit dimmer. Yesterday, I drove to Costco to look at those computers on display. Absolutely, the F5 should turn on bright, dim, and off not just bright or off like mine.  Any advice or does it go back? Thank you.  I've tried pushing F5 several times, also holding F5 down, also F5 + up or down key-----nothing dims the light only turns on and off.

Hi @bjmyers49

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the backlight keyboard.

To adjust the brightness of the backlight, press the key with the backlight icon  two or three times in a row. The keyboard backlight dims and brightens. It might be necessary to press the fn (function) key at the same time to activate the backlight key.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

No it doesn’t work. I’d already seen that answer elsewhere. I don’t have anything other than off and on. So tomorrow I’ll call Costco Customer service as I think it will be necessary to return this computer. 😩
