My touch screen stopped working several months ago and I've explored every way I know to fix it.
My Device Manager shows no HID-Compliant Touch Screen, and the Intel(R) Precise Touch and Stylus (Intel(R) PTS) - Base Driver - Port #1 is flagged with a yellow caution symbol. When I look at its Properties, it says:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE
I've searched for drivers for both HID-Compliant Touch Screen and the Intel(R) Precise Touch and Stylus (Intel(R) PTS) - Base Driver - Port #1. Trying to update the driver for the Intel Precise Touch and Stylus, I get the message that the best drivers for this device are already installed.
I've explored many other paths to a solution, but I'm going in circles. Can anyone help?

@LSN2, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
We see you are facing this issue with the Intel(R) Precise Touch and Stylus (Intel PTS) - Base Driver - Port #1 after a Windows update or sudden power event. The error you're seeing:
This device cannot start. (Code 10) - STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE
indicates a low-level hardware communication problem, not just a driver issue. Below are step-by-step instructions to cleanly reinstall the driver and attempt to restore the touchscreen functionality:
Fully Power Reset the Laptop
This is crucial to clear any hardware latch or power-related bug.
- Shut down the laptop.
- Unplug the power adapter.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- If your model has a pinhole reset (usually on the bottom), press it using a paperclip.
- Plug in the charger and power it back on.
Delete the Faulty Driver
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand the section: System Devices or Human Interface Devices (where Intel PTS might be).
- Right-click on Intel(R) Precise Touch and Stylus - Base Driver - Port #1, then choose Uninstall device.
- Check the box that says “Delete the driver software for this device,” if available.
- Click Uninstall.
- Restart your PC.
Reinstall the Intel PTS Driver
There are two ways to try this:
Option A: Use HP Drivers (Recommended)
- Go to your laptop’s support page:
HP ENVY x360 13-bf0000 Driver Page - Under “Driver – Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices” or similar section, download:
Intel Precise Touch and Stylus Driver (look for the latest version). - Install it and restart your laptop.
Option B: Use Intel’s Website
- Go to: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download-center/home.html
- Search for “Intel Serial IO” or “Intel Precise Touch and Stylus”.
- Download the latest driver for Windows 11.
- Install and restart.
Enable Hidden Devices (Optional)
Sometimes the touchscreen device is hidden:
- In Device Manager, click View > Show hidden devices.
- Expand Human Interface Devices.
- Look for HID-compliant touch screen or any grayed-out device.
- If found, right-click > Enable.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Press F2 during startup to enter HP Diagnostics (or use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool from USB).
- Run Component Tests > Touch Screen.
- If the test fails, it’s likely a hardware-level issue with the touch controller or digitizer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
