HP ENVY x360 13.3 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 13-bf0000 (552D5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My laptop keeps getting stuck in tablet mode and it won't revert to laptop mode without restarting the device. This is only a fix about 50 % of the time.

How do I turn off tablet mode? I never want to use the device as a tablet and want to to always be used as a laptop so I can use the keyboard and touchpad.

How do I fix this issue?

Hi @LC163,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand your HP ENVY x360 13-bf0000 is getting stuck in tablet mode and not switching back reliably, and you’d prefer to disable tablet mode completely so it always works as a laptop. Let’s go through a few steps to fix this.

Check Tablet Mode Settings in Windows 11

Press Windows + I to open Settings.

Go to System > Display > Scale & layout > Display orientation.

Make sure rotation lock is turned ON to prevent automatic tablet switching.

In System > Multitasking > Tablet settings, set it to Never use tablet mode (if available).

Turn Off Tablet Mode from Action Center

Press Windows + A to open the Quick Settings panel.

Look for the Tablet mode / Rotation lock icon.

Ensure tablet mode is disabled and rotation lock is enabled.

Update BIOS and Drivers

Go to the HP Drivers & Downloads page.

Enter your model (HP ENVY x360 13-bf0000).

Download and install the latest BIOS, chipset, graphics, and sensor drivers.

Restart after installation, sometimes sensor calibration fixes mode-switch issues.

Disable the Sensor Service (Optional Workaround)

Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.

Find Sensor Monitoring Service or Sensor Service.

Right-click → Stop and set Startup type = Disabled.

This disables auto-detection of tablet mode and forces the laptop to behave like a standard laptop.

Registry Fix (Advanced)

Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter.

Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell

Create a new DWORD (32-bit) value called TabletMode and set its value to 0.

Restart your laptop.

Perform a Hard Reset (if sensors are stuck)

Shut down the laptop.

Disconnect the charger and external devices.

Hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain residual charge.

Power it back on and check if mode switching works.

I hope this helps.
