HP Laptop Envy m6
Core i7 with 2gb Radeon Graphics
Installed 8.1, first time using it I was able to adjust the brightness, I blieve after a few minutes because of the 8.1 upodate my laptop started using the Intel Graphic settings and drivers which has disabled things such as the correct information regarding the graphics card and the display in control panel.
I have spent hours trying to fix this, did all the easy tricks like uninstalling and installing the correct drivers from AMD and the HP website, system restore, tried using the power settings (no brightness controls were available there either) and even tried the device manager even tried ccleaner.
I need a fix asap, cant work with this blinding brightness.
I must point out even after uninstalling the new Intel Graphic drivers and softwares and installing the original drivers (which does not change anything) the intel options show up after restarting.
Aside smashing the hell out of this laptop with a baseball bat is there a proper clean fix ?
I dont wanna reinstall windows.

To fix the brightness problem, in 8.1 do this:
1.) Right click on the windows icon on the bottom left hand corner. A menu pops up.
2.) Click on Device Manager, then double click on
Display Adapters and AMD Radeon HD8470D pops up. Double click on that. An AMD Properties box pops up. Click on Driver. Go down to Update driver and click on that. It may lessen brightness for the moment, so then go to Roll Back Driver and click it and that is all you need to do. Then go to setting in right hand corner, and you should be able to use the slide to change the brightness.
It worked for me. I even turned off the computer, then turned it back on and the slide still works and
changes the brightness. Good luck.

I have exactly the same problem. Even took the computer to Geek Squad at Best Buy,and they could not fix it. HP could not even fix it. It is a real joke. If you find an answer, please let me know. Going blind in Pompano Beach. Tomorrow, I am going to Office Depot to get an anti glare screen!
