HP victus p PC 16-s1023dx
Microsoft Windows 11

I am purchasing a hp victus laptop with the rtx 4070 mobile and 8865hs.

I would like to know if there is a way in bios to only utilize the integrated graphics and completely disable the rtx 4070 for everyday use, as I only need the rtx 4070 for when I am plugged in.

I would like to ensure that I do not mean utilizing the hybrid mode in hp omen, but to completely disable the rtx 4070 with there being no power used by it.

To completely disable the NVIDIA RTX 4070 GPU on your HP Victus 16-s1023dx and use only the integrated Radeon 780M iGPU, follow these steps to ensure that the discrete GPU is not utilized at all:

🔧 Steps to Disable the NVIDIA RTX 4070

Check BIOS for GPU Configuration

Some HP Victus models may allow you to select the GPU in the BIOS. Here’s how to check:

  • Restart your laptop and press F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS.
  • Navigate to Advanced > Graphics Configuration (or a similar option).
  • Look for settings like:
    • Hybrid Graphics
    • Discrete Graphics
    • Integrated Graphics Only
  • If available, set it to "Integrated Graphics Only".

Note: Many Victus models may not have this option.

Disable the RTX 4070 from Device Manager (Software Method)

If the BIOS does not provide the option:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Display Adapters.
  • Right-click on NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070.
  • Select Disable device.

🧠 This will prevent Windows and applications from accessing the GPU, which should also minimize power draw.

Using bcdedit to Force iGPU Boot (Experimental)

For advanced users, you can use the command line to stop Windows from initializing the dGPU at boot:

  1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  2. Type the following command:

bcdedit /set pciexpress forcedisable

⚠️ Caution: This may prevent PCIe devices like the RTX from waking up. Use with caution, as it could lead to unexpected issues. You may need to revert this change if it causes problems.

Consider Using Linux (Optional Info)

If you're open to using Linux, certain distributions with proper kernel support and amdgpu drivers can fully ignore the dGPU and keep it powered down using tools like bbswitch, acpi_call, or runtime power management.

  • If BIOS has the option: You can easily set it to use only the integrated graphics.
  • If BIOS lacks the option: Your best bet is to disable the RTX 4070 in Device Manager. This won't physically remove the GPU from the PCIe bus, but it will stop the OS from powering it up or using it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

In bios, integrated graphics shows up as UMA. (Unified memory architecture. S1xxx series laptops seem to have it available, although adding it to the omen app in addition to hybrid and discrite as something like low-power would be nice for less technical users.
