Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am having lots of issues with the right button click zone on my Spectre x360. The default right button click zone is on the lower right corner of the touchpad and there is no way to move it to other corners of the touchpad. I'm right handed so most of my left clicks end up in the right button click zone, which is super annoying after a while. I checked all driver options and I couldn't find a way to shrink the size of the zone or completely disable it. I'm extremely surprized and frustrated at the lack of basic customization available for this essential user interface element. I'm running the latest available driver version 19.0.12.98 Rev.A. Please help!

Thanks

Hey there! @bluemonk9, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you need to know how to disable right click button on the touchpad of your laptop.

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Please try the steps mentioned below.

To do this, go to ControlPanel --> MouseProperties.
Click on the Device Settings tab on the far right.
Click on the Settings button.
Locate "Buttons" on the left and click the tiny arrow to expand that section.  You should see "Right Button Zone" appear.
Click this object named "Right Button Zone" in order to highlight it and click on the little Gear icon on the right next to the question mark.
A windows should appear illustrating the two different zones.  Using the touchpad, click and drag the top left corner of the Right Click Zone and drag it to the bottom right so that it has little or no area.
Click Close.
Click Apply.

Refer this article to know how to configure the ClickPad.

Let me know if this works!

Have a beautiful day ahead! 🙂

Thanks for the response but the touchpad settings are different on my PC. FYI, I have synaptics touchpad and all the setting options are synaptic specific (not HP specific as you may have mentioned in your reply).

Like I said earlier, I can get to the option where right button click zone size can be changed but the option only allows increasing the zone size, by dragging left side of the rectangle zone. The default zone size can't be reduced and all the other sides and corners of the zone can't be moved/dragged.

Here's the sequence of options I navigate on my PC to reach the zone re-size window:

Control Panel -> Mouse and touchpad settings -> Additional mouse options (at the bottom) -> ClickPad Settings (tab) -> ClickPad Settings (button) -> Clicking -> Right Button Zone -> Settings (gear button)

Hi! @bluemonk9, thanks for the response.

Thanks for trying out the steps.

Please try the steps recommend below.

The TouchPad features dedicated left- and right-click buttons that give you the same functionality as the buttons on an external pointing device. These are enabled and pre-configured by default. However, you can customize how each button behaves in the TouchPad control panel.

To configure the left and right buttons:

Open the TouchPad control panel.
Expand the Buttons category heading.
Select either the Left Button Action or Right Button Action option and the change the action associated with it.
Click OK to close the TouchPad control panel.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot touch pad issues.

I'll watch your reply!

Cheers! 🙂

The link you're sending is not relevant for me. The steps you've provided are not relevant for me. For me, synaptics driver settings control the behavior. Here are the screenshots of the settings I have. Refer to my first reply for the sequence of options I follow to get to the "Right Button Zone" window.

@bluemonk9, thanks for the response.

Thanks for trying out the steps.

I am unable to view the pictures you have sent.

Please try the steps mentioned below.

By default, the left and right buttons function as left-click and right-click buttons. You can customize button clicks from the TouchPad Properties page. Use the following steps to customize the buttons.
Open the properties page. For more information on opening the properties page go to the TouchPad or ClickPad properties page section of this document.
Click to highlight Buttons. If the box next to Buttons does not contain a check, click the box until a check displays to enable the buttons.
To disable the buttons, click the box until the box is empty. When the buttons are disabled, tapping is the only way to click with your pointing device.
Click Settings   to adjust the button actions.
Customize left button and right button actions by clicking the down arrow   to open the button action menu for each item. Scroll through the menu to make your selection. Some selections required additional information. If the Configure button is enabled after your selection, click Configure and follow the instructions.
Click Close to return to the properties screen.
Click Apply to apply your changes, and then select OK to exit the properties screen.

Please find the attached images for more information.

If you are unable find these settings on your laptop.

Please provide the product number of your PC I will find the updated drivers for your PC.

I will watch your reply! 🙂

Did you ever find a solution to this?  The right button zone is really annoying and cannot be resized smaller than the default.

Here's how I fixed it.

Press the cog next to "clicking" and then set the corner click action to primary click (basically left click) instead of secondary click (right click).

Tapping or clicking with two fingers still works as a right click no matter where you press on the touchpad.

Hope this works!
