Hi,

I just got new HP EliteBook 850 G8 from my employer. Is there a way to determine which screen size I have on my laptop?

PS: I measure the length from down left display corner until top right corner and it was 39 CM which seems close to 15.6 inches, and I want to confirm this.

  • 850 series are for 15"machines. Now they use 15.6" because basically the frame is thinner.
  • 840 series are for 14"machines.
  • and similar 830 series are for 13"machines.

Regards.

In addition to knowing the actual physical screen size (as seen in the above post, the middle digit usually represents the 2nd digit of the screen measurement: 830 = 13", 840 = 14", 850 = 15"), another important thing is to understand the supported resolutions. This is a combination of the screen component and the onboard video card (GPU). I believe the minimum resolution of the 850 is 1920 x 1024. But it's possible another option was selected for higher resolution such as 2048 x 1152 or 3840 x 2160. While it is generally difficult to exploit the power of 2048 or 3840 resolution on a small 15" screen, if you use an external monitor you can take advantage of those resolutions with a much larger screen while maintaining high clarity.
