I was unable to be seen in a video meeting.  A message said the camera had been turned off on the device.

How do I turn it on.

Hi @Grana01,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you have trouble with the Webcam. Here’s how you can manually turn on the camera on your HP Notebook running Windows 11:

Step 1: Check the Physical Privacy Shutter

  • Many HP notebooks have a small slider near the webcam.
  • Slide it open so the camera lens is visible, like pulling back a curtain.

Step 2: Enable Camera in Windows Settings

  1. Click Start → Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.
  2. Make sure Camera access for this device is ON.
  3. Also, enable Allow apps to access your camera.

Step 3: Check Device Manager

  1. Press Windows + X → Device Manager.
  2. Expand Cameras or Imaging Devices.
  3. If the camera is disabled:
    • Right-click the camera → Enable device.
  4. If you see a yellow warning icon, update the driver:
    • Right-click → Update driverSearch automatically.

Step 4: Test the Camera

  • Open the Camera app (search “Camera” in Start).
  • If it works here, your video meeting app should detect it.

Step 5: App Permissions

  • In Privacy & Security → Camera, scroll down and ensure your meeting app (Zoom, Teams, etc.) has permission.
