Hi @Vruz,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Chromebook x360 is having trouble recognizing when it's in laptop mode versus tablet mode. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue.

Check the Mode Switch Sensor:

  • Sometimes, the issue can be with the sensor that detects the Chromebook's orientation. Gently tap around the hinges and edges of the screen to see if it helps the sensor recalibrate.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Power off your Chromebook.
  • Press and hold the Refresh key (the circular arrow) and the Power button at the same time.
  • Release both keys when the Chromebook starts up.

Check for Physical Issues:

  • Ensure there's no debris or damage around the hinge area that might be affecting the sensor.

Try a Powerwash:

  • If the issue persists, you can try a Powerwash, which will reset your Chromebook to factory settings. Note: This will erase all local data, so ensure you have backups of important files.
  • Go to Settings > Advanced > Reset settings > Powerwash.

Update the Chromebook:

  • Since you mentioned you've already updated it, make sure it's fully up to date by checking for any pending updates:
    • Go to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for updates.

Check for External Hardware Conflicts:

  • Disconnect any external devices (USB mouse, keyboard) and see if the internal keyboard and touchpad start working.

Boot into Recovery Mode:

  • If none of the above works, you can try booting into recovery mode:
    • Power off the Chromebook.
    • Press and hold the Esc key + Refresh key, then press the Power button.
    • Once in recovery mode, you can try reinstalling Chrome OS.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
