Hey @rayan44, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Check External Display
- Connect your laptop to an external monitor via HDMI or DisplayPort.
- If the external display works fine, the issue is likely with the internal display cable or panel.
Adjust the Screen Position
- Slowly open and close the lid to see if the display flickers or turns off.
- If so, it indicates a faulty or loose display flex cable.
Check for Other Issues
- If the screen works fine at a specific angle, but not others, the flex cable may be loose or internally damaged.
- If you notice horizontal/vertical lines or color distortions, it may indicate a damaged LCD or a partially broken cable.Steps to Replace the Display Flex Cable

⚠️ Warning: This procedure requires disassembling the laptop. If you're not comfortable doing this, consider taking it to a repair technician.
1. Prepare for Disassembly
- Power off the laptop and disconnect the charger.
- Remove the battery (if accessible) or disconnect it internally to prevent electrical damage.
- Use an anti-static wrist strap to prevent static discharge damage.
2. Remove the Bottom Cover
- Unscrew all visible screws on the bottom panel using a Phillips screwdriver.
- Use a plastic pry tool to carefully separate the bottom case.
- Locate the battery connector and unplug it.
3. Access the Display Hinges & Cable
- Identify the display cable (flex cable) running from the motherboard to the screen.
- Check for any visible damage or loose connections.
- If loose, reseat the connector and test before replacing the cable.
4. Remove the Display Assembly (if necessary)
- If the flex cable is damaged and needs replacement:
- Unscrew and disconnect the hinges of the display assembly.
- Carefully remove the bezel around the screen using a pry tool.
- Unscrew and lift the LCD panel to access the cable beneath.
5. Replace the Flex Cable
- Disconnect the old cable from both the motherboard and display panel.
- Route the new cable exactly as the old one was installed.
- Secure the connections properly to avoid loose contact.
6. Reassemble & Test
- Reinstall the screen and reattach the bezel.
- Reconnect the hinges and screw them back in place.
- Reattach the bottom cover and reconnect the battery.
- Power on the laptop and test the display.

Additional Notes
- If the issue persists after replacing the cable, the LCD panel or motherboard connector may be damaged.
- If there's no visible damage to the cable, try reseating both ends of the existing cable first before replacing it.
- Always use an original or high-quality replacement flex cable to avoid further issues.
I hope these steps help resolve the issue

Hello
I tested by slowly opening and closing the screen, and I noticed that when I touch the lower part of the back of the screen, the image sometimes comes back. This seems to indicate an issue with the display flex cable.
Is there a video tutorial to check this? Do I necessarily have to remove the screen to access and replace the cable if needed?

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Community! 🎉
It sounds like there may indeed be a loose connection or an issue with the display flex cable, especially if pressing on the lower part of the back helps the image reappear. This suggests the cable might not be fully connected, or it could be damaged in that area.
As for video tutorials, you can find specific ones for your device model on platforms like YouTube or iFixit, which often have step-by-step guides for repairing or diagnosing display issues.
Regarding whether you need to remove the screen:
Accessing the flex cable: In most devices the flex cable that connects the screen to the motherboard is hidden under the screen assembly. Depending on your device, you may need to remove the screen or the bezel to get access to the cable.
You might need to carefully remove the bezel (frame around the screen), which can often be done without removing the entire display. From there, you can inspect and possibly re-seat or replace the flex cable.
Before diving into it, I'd recommend finding a repair guide specific to your device. You can search for terms like:
- how to replace flex cable Hp Victus 16 flex display
- Hp Victus 16 flex display screen flicker fix
