Hi @Jeffrey2k22,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing performance issues with your HP Pavilion laptop after a recent update. There could be several reasons for the sudden drop in FPS (frames per second) while playing games like Call of Duty: Warzone. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Power settings: Check your power settings to ensure that the laptop is set to high-performance mode both when plugged in and on battery power. Sometimes updates can reset these settings, impacting performance.
  • Graphics drivers: Make sure you have the latest graphics drivers installed for your laptop's GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause performance problems. Visit the HP support website or the GPU manufacturer's website to download and install the latest drivers.
  • Thermal throttling: Overheating can lead to performance issues, particularly during intense gaming sessions. Check if your laptop is overheating by monitoring the temperatures using software like HWMonitor or Core Temp. If temperatures are too high, you may need to clean the laptop's cooling system or consider using a laptop cooling pad.
  • Background processes: Close any unnecessary background processes and applications that might be consuming system resources while gaming. Use the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) to identify and close any resource-intensive processes.
  • System updates: Ensure that all your system drivers and software are up to date. Install any pending Windows updates as they can sometimes include performance optimizations.
  • System resources: Check if any other programs or services are hogging system resources. You can use the Task Manager to monitor CPU, memory, and disk usage while gaming to identify any resource bottlenecks.
  • Reset game settings: If the FPS drop occurs only in Call of Duty: Warzone, try resetting the in-game graphics settings to default. Lowering the graphics settings temporarily may also help improve performance until you can resolve the underlying issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
