HP Pavilion x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ek1000 (742J1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello everyone.

I own an HP Pavilion x360 and have the problem that my HP Active Pen G2 cannot write on the touch display, even though it is connected via Bluetooth. Why is this, do I need a special pen for my laptop?

Thanks for the answer!

Hi @Manuel70,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

If your HP Active Pen G2 is connected via Bluetooth but cannot write on your HP Pavilion x360's touch display, the issue might be related to compatibility. Not all HP Pavilion x360 models support pen input, even though they have touchscreens. Here's what could be happening:

Possible Reasons for the Pen Issue:

Incompatibility: Your Pavilion x360 model may not support active stylus input, even though it supports touch. Some HP laptops have touch displays that do not support active pens or only support certain types of pens.

Driver or Firmware Issue: If your laptop does support pen input, outdated drivers or firmware could prevent the pen from working correctly.

Pen Battery or Hardware Issue: The pen itself might have a battery or sensor issue, even though it's connecting via Bluetooth. The Bluetooth connection only controls button functions (e.g., shortcuts) but not the actual writing capability.

Try the steps below.

Check Compatibility:

  • Verify if your HP Pavilion x360 model supports active pen input. You can check the laptop’s manual or HP's official product page for compatibility with active pens.
  • Some Pavilion x360 models only support specific pens, such as the HP Tilt Pen or HP Active Pen, so double-check the recommended pen for your model.

Update Drivers:

  • Update the graphics drivers and pen drivers. Go to Device Manager and ensure that both the Human Interface Devices (HID) and Display Adapters are up-to-date.
  • Visit HP’s support website and download the latest touch firmware or pen-related drivers if available for your specific model.

Check Pen Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink and check the pen settings. Ensure the pen is enabled and calibrated for use.

Test with Another Pen:

  • If you have access to another compatible active pen (such as the HP Tilt Pen), try it on the laptop to see if the issue is with the pen or the laptop.

If your Pavilion x360 model doesn’t support the HP Active Pen G2, you might need to purchase a compatible pen or use the laptop's touchscreen with your fingers instead. If the laptop is compatible but the pen still doesn’t work, there could be a hardware issue with the pen or display that requires further assistance. Contact HP phone support.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
