Hi @Sfffdd,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that your HP Victus laptop is lagging and its screen is freezing.

To immediately unfreeze a completely stuck screen, force restart your laptop by pressing and holding the power button for 10-15 seconds until it shuts down, then turn it back on. Afterwards, you can fix underlying lag and recurring freezes with a few simple maintenance steps.

1. Close Resource-Heavy Background Tasks:

Sometimes a program uses up all your processing power or memory.

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager.

  • Click the Memory or CPU column header to sort by highest usage.

  • Select the program you don't need and click End Task.

2. Free Up Storage Space:

If your laptop's hard drive is full, the operating system cannot run smoothly.

  • Ensure you have at least 10% to 20% of your total storage free.

  • Press the Windows Key, type Disk Cleanup, and select the drives you want to clean up.

3. Check for Overheating:

When a laptop gets too hot, it deliberately slows down to prevent damage, causing extreme lag.

  • Check that your laptop's cooling vents aren't blocked by dust, blankets, or a lap.

  • Ensure internal fans are running properly.

4. Adjust Power Settings:

Sometimes power-saving modes throttle your processor's performance.

  • Open the Control Panel and go to Power Options.

  • Select High Performance instead of Power Saver.

5. Run a Malware Scan:

Sometimes malicious software in the background can freeze up your system.

  • Open Windows Security.

  • Go to Virus & threat protection and run a full system scan.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
