Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (599K0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I have a victus 15 gaming laptop and in these days I tried to change the brightness by lowering it, but I could'nt using the FN+FN2/FN3 keys. Therefor I opened the settings app and tried to change it from there, but it was locked (the brightness bar was grey like when you can't touch and modify it). I don't know why it's like this now because 3 or 4 months ago I could adjust the brightness

Hi @Matthew_1306,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

It's frustrating when something as essential as adjusting screen brightness suddenly stops working, especially when it used to function perfectly fine. Let’s go through a few steps to figure out what might be causing the issue and get it resolved.

A few questions to narrow down the issue.

  • Did you recently update Windows or install any new drivers/software that could have affected the display settings?
  • Are you using an external monitor, and if so, does the issue persist when using only the laptop screen?
  • Have you checked if the display driver is up to date or if it has been replaced with a generic driver by Windows?

Let's try these steps.

Update or Reinstall Display Drivers:

  • Go to Device Manager > Display adapters, right-click your GPU (both Intel/NVIDIA/AMD), and select "Update driver."
  • If updating doesn’t work, try uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it from HP’s support page.

Enable Adaptive Brightness Settings:

  • Navigate to Control Panel > Power Options > Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Display > Enable adaptive brightness.
  • Try toggling it on and off to see if it restores control.

Check HP Hotkey Support Software:

  • Ensure that HP Hotkey Support or Command Center is installed and updated, as these utilities manage function keys for brightness.
  • You can download it from HP's official website.

Check Windows Services:

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and ensure that Sensor Monitoring Service and Human Interface Device Service are running and set to "Automatic." These services can affect brightness controls.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
