Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!
HP Recommended

I have been trying to make some videos using the camera.  I can open it, camera (built in or usb) work fine, I hit record, it freezes for 10 seconds then comes up with the error code

0xA00F4293 VideoCaptureStartTimeout

I can take photos fine, but yeah.  I had been able to do it just fine in windows 10 but since upgrading, this is one of the issues I'm now facing.

Any help would be much appreciated

Hi @nzscrub,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The error code 0xA00F4293, often indicating a "VideoCaptureStartTimeout" issue, typically occurs when there's a delay in starting the video capture function of your camera. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

Check Memory Card Speed:

  • Ensure that you are using a high-speed memory card. Cards marked with "High Performance," "Pro," "Ultra," or "High Speed" are recommended for video recording.

Free up Storage Space:

  • Transfer existing files from your camera to a computer and make sure there is sufficient space available on the memory card or internal memory for video recording.

Reset the Camera:

  • Turn off the camera.
  • Remove the battery and memory card, wait for at least five seconds, then reinsert them.
  • Turn on the camera. A reset can resolve firmware issues that might be causing the capturing timeout.

Firmware Update:

  • Check for any firmware updates for your camera on the https://support.hp.com/us-en to resolve possible bugs or issues with outdated firmware.

Format the Memory Card:

  • Backup any important data from your memory card before proceeding.
  • Format the memory card using the camera to ensure it is optimised for use with the device.

Avoid High-Capacity Cards for Old Models:

  • If you are using an older camera model, ensure the memory card is supported. Cameras without SDHC support might struggle with newer, larger capacity cards.

Check Camera Settings:

  • Access the Camera Setup Menu and verify that all settings (like video quality and frame rate) are appropriately configured.

Check Computer System Requirements (if using with a computer):

  • Ensure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for video capture with this camera.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
