I upgraded my laptop 256 sdd to 1 tb sdd and after a day, the display started flickering even in BIOS mode. But when I switch to legacy mode, the screen flickering stopped. What should I do to stop it from happening while in UEFI mode.

HOW did you do the " upgrade" -- did you CLONE the Windows install from the old drive to the new one? Or did you do a new Windows install? And if the second, did you use an HP OEM Version of Windows for the install?

I did a clean windows install via usb. I think I didn't use an HP OEM Version of Windows as I have download Windows 10 in the windows website on my flashdrive.

Update: I tried lowering the refresh rate to 40, the screen flickering stopped. But is there any permanent fix for this since with this, I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware issue. I'm thinking of formatting my ssd again but are there any better ideas? since it's kind of a waste of time just to reformat just to troubleshoot.

This is not an internal drive issue -- so formatting the SSD will be a waste of time.

This is almost certainly an indication of failing video hardware -- either the screen or the video chip or both.

You need to connect an external monitor to the laptop.

If the visual artifacts also appear on the monitor, then it is a failing video chip and since those are soldered to the motherboard, they are not replaceable.

If the visual artifacts do NOT appear on the monitor, then it is a failing laptop screen. While those can be replaced, the cost varies enormously by individual PC model.

If the laptop is still under warranty, you would need to contact an HP Repair or Service Center.

If the laptop is no longer under warranty, then your most practical "solution" is to replace it. Why? Because most places will not do screen replacements to laptops because the cost of those nearly always well exceeds the cost of replacing the laptop outright. Plus, HP does not do repairs to equipment no longer under warranty, so you would also have to find a repair place on your own.

Good Luck

Thank you so much! May I also ask since yesterday I connected it to a projector and while the laptop screen is flickering, the projector didn't flicker so does this mean it's really a laptop screen issue?

HP Recommended

Most likely -- yes -- as flickering caused by the video chip would also show up on the projector.
