HP 15 Laptop PC 15-e3000 (4X377AV)

I’ve encountered an issue with my laptop’s display; a shadow of the keyboard is persistently visible on the screen. It’s something I hadn’t observed before, likely due to my infrequent use of it. The laptop hasn’t experienced any falls or impacts, leaving me puzzled about the cause of this problem. Any assistance in resolving this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

HI @Nicanicanica,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're describing sounds like a case of "image persistence" or "screen burn-in," where a faint image or shadow of the keyboard appears on the display even when it's showing other content. Here are some potential causes and solutions for this issue:

Causes

  1. Pressure on the Screen: If the laptop is closed tightly, the keyboard might be pressing against the screen, causing a faint imprint.
  2. Prolonged Static Images: Leaving the laptop on with a static image for a prolonged period can cause image persistence.
  3. Heat: Excessive heat can sometimes cause temporary image retention.

Solutions

Power Cycle the Display:

  • Turn off the laptop and leave it off for a few hours. This can sometimes help reset the display pixels.

Use a Screen Saver:

  • Set a screen saver that activates after a short period of inactivity to prevent static images from being displayed for too long.

Run a Pixel Refresher:

  • Some modern displays have built-in pixel refresher tools designed to eliminate image retention. Check if your laptop display offers this feature.
  • There are also software tools available online that can help with this issue. Look for "LCD conditioning" tools or applications designed to fix stuck pixels.

Adjust Display Settings:

  • Lower the brightness of the display to reduce the intensity of the shadow.
  • Use a dynamic wallpaper or screensaver that changes frequently to prevent static images from being displayed for too long.

Avoid Pressure:

  • Ensure that when you close your laptop, there’s no excessive pressure being applied to the screen. Consider placing a soft cloth between the keyboard and screen when closing the laptop.

Run an All-White or All-Black Screen:

  • Display an all-white screen or an all-black screen for several hours. This can sometimes help to even out the pixels and reduce image persistence.

Steps to Run a Pixel Refresher or All-White/All-Black Screen

Pixel Refresher Tools:

  • Search for and download a pixel refresher tool or an LCD conditioning program.
  • Follow the instructions provided by the tool to run the pixel refresher.

Display an All-White or All-Black Screen:

  • Open a full-screen browser window and search for an all-white or all-black screen video on YouTube or another video platform.
  • Let the video play for a few hours.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
