I2C HID Device Driver code 10 - touchpad not working, and more worrying, cursor mouse pointer disappears.  A number of posts on this, so please if you have advice the following has not worked:

1. Disable/Enable/Unistal driver & scan for hardware changes

2. Update driver, check for updates on windows, choose different driver than one specified for another HID input device

3. Search for updates from HP and web, all up to date, including BIOS

4. BIOS load default settings & restart

5. BIOS turn cooling fan on continuously (this model does not allow control of fan through FanSpeed or other third party apps)

6. Cleaned out cooling vents on back cover, use laptop fan, UEFI fan test through HP Hardware Diagnostics, passed

I can still use the touch screen, (no cursor appears), and I have a Wacom tablet that when connected displays a cursor and operates correctly, but installing any number of wireless mouse devices including a HP one simply triggers the Code 10 device driver failure.  This feels like a system, not a hardware fault, but what are the next steps anyone?  How can I roll back a BIOS update, as that may have triggered things?  Is a PC reset worth the hassle?  Has anyone else managed to resolve this PERMANENTLY?  Sometimes rebooting tricks the touchpad into working for a while, but I can't see what triggers a sudden desire to roll over and die.  Could changing the touchpad component resolve matters?
